RICHMOND, VA – Despite the $1.8 billion Powerball jackpot beingโค claimed by winners in Missouri and Texas, virginia experienced a meaningful win โof its own. The Virginia Lottery announced Sunday thatโ sales from the โค42 drawings leading up to Saturday night’s historic jackpot generated an estimated $29.6 million inโ profit for K-12 public education in the Commonwealth.
The surge in ticket sales also resulted in numerous prizes for Virginia players in Saturday’s โdrawing. more than 266,000 tickets purchased in Virginia won prizes, including five worth $100,000 each and four worth $50,000 each.
Winning $100,000 tickets wereโ sold โat: Gobble Stop in Barren Springs, JW Express in Farmville,โข two Wawa locations in Richmond and โStafford, and โขMurphy Express in Winchester. $50,000 tickets were purchased at a Safeway in Fairfax, Varina Marketโข in Henrico, a Wawa in Manassas, and through the Virginia Lottery app.
The winning numbers for the September 6th drawing were 11-23-44-61-62, with a Powerball numberโฃ of 17.the jackpot has now reset to $20 million forโค Monday night’s drawing.
The Virginia Lottery emphasizes that all sales revenue directly supports education. This means that even without a jackpot winner in Virginia, the recent Powerball excitement provided a significant financialโค benefit to classrooms across the Commonwealth.
