A collision between a passenger train and a car in Dolný Štál, Slovakia, disrupted rail traffic on Thursday morning, February 26, 2026. The incident occurred between Dolný Štál and Veľký Meder in the Dunajská Streda district, according to reports.
The page “Obmedzenia prevádzky na tratiach ŽSR” (Restrictions on ŽSR Tracks) reported the disruption followed a collision between train Os 4373 and a motor vehicle at a level crossing.
Leo Express, the train’s operator, stated the train was traveling from Dunajská Streda to Komárno. “After the front of the train passed the railway crossing, a passenger car lightly collided with it from the side. No one on the train was injured and according to our information, the driver was likewise not injured. Traffic in the section was restored within an hour and a half,” said Leo Express spokesperson Emil Sedlařík.
The incident also impacted other train services. Regional express 1434, traveling from Komárno to Bratislava hl. St. (Bratislava main station), was cancelled between Dunajská Streda and Bratislava hl. St. And operated as a stopping passenger train instead.
The incident follows a fatal collision on Wednesday on the eastern side of Slovakia. A car and a passenger train collided at an unprotected level crossing in Drienovská Nová Ves, Prešov district, resulting in two fatalities. One of the victims was the father of Roman, a 15-year-old who died in 2023 after falling from a school roof.
