Norwood High Student Injured in Electric Bike collision
NORWOOD, Mass. – A 15-year-old high school student was hospitalized Monday after being struck by a vehicle while riding an electric bicycle in Norwood, Massachusetts. The incident occurred near the intersection of Walpole Street and Geraldine Drive as the girl was traveling to norwood High School.
According to Norwood Police Department Chief Christopher Padden, the student was riding behind a car when she entered the roadway, obstructing the view of the approaching driver and resulting in a collision. She was ejected from the bicycle but was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
“She cut behind one car so the other driver couldn’t see her, and she was knocked off of her bicycle. She was wearing a helmet, thankfully,” Chief Padden stated.
The injured teen was transported by medical helicopter to a Boston hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
Police are using the incident to remind both cyclists and drivers to exercise increased caution. “Thes kids on electric bikes and scooters are moving a lot faster than they used to be when they were driving regular bikes and scooters,” padden explained. “They have to be very cautious, and drivers have to be very aware that they can move quicker.”
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. The investigation is ongoing.
