titagarh Rail Systems Secures Prime Land for Vande Bharat Coach Expansion, Eyes Production Surge
Kolkata, India – Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd. is poised for a notable production boost, notably for the coveted Vande Bharat coaches and metro cars, following the acquisition of approximately 40 acres of land on a 99-year lease from the West Bengal government. The strategic land deal, valued at Rs 126.63 crore, is set to transform the company’s Uttarpara facility in the Hooghly district into a manufacturing powerhouse.The newly acquired land, spanning the mouzas of Kotrung and Bhadrakali, directly adjoins Titagarh’s existing 34-acre plant, creating a contiguous and expanded operational footprint. this move is a critical component of the company’s aspiring growth strategy, aimed at bolstering its manufacturing capabilities for India’s flagship semi-high-speed trains and urban transit solutions.
In a regulatory filing,Titagarh Rail Systems confirmed that the additional land will be instrumental in establishing new production infrastructure. This includes dedicated zones for the crucial processes of forming, testing, and commissioning of both metro coaches and Vande Bharat trains. Furthermore, the company plans to construct a dedicated test track, ensuring rigorous performance and safety validation before any rolling stock is delivered to clients.
This expansion is projected to dramatically increase Titagarh’s annual production capacity. The company anticipates scaling its output from the current 300 cars per year to an remarkable 850 cars annually by the fiscal year 2028.
In parallel with its physical expansion, Titagarh Rail Systems is also strengthening its financial base.The company announced plans to raise Rs 200 crore through a preferential issue of warrants to members of its promoter group.
As of March 31, 2025, Titagarh’s consolidated order book stood robust at Rs 11,200 crore. passenger rolling stock constitutes a significant 62% of this backlog, with freight orders making up the remaining 38%. The company’s joint ventures further bolster its order pipeline, holding an additional Rs 13,326 crore in contracts, which include the supply of wheelsets in collaboration with Ramkrishna Forgings and Vande Bharat coaches in partnership with BHEL.
