HUCA‘s Plastic Surgery Department โCelebrates 50 Years as Top-Ranked service
Oviedo, โคSpain โ – The Plastic โขSurgery departmentโค of the Central University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA) is celebrating โits 50th anniversary this September 26th, marking five decades of innovation adn patient care. Theโข department, led by Dr. Daniel Camporro, has risen to become one of the four best-valuedโข plastic surgery services in Spain, โขachieving the highest rating within HUCA’s portfolio of services according to the health reputation monitor.
The team of twelve specialists and ten residents โคperforms approximately 1,500 surgical interventions requiring hospital admission and โค2,500 major ambulatory procedures annually. HUCA’s Plastic Surgery department also serves as a National Health System Reference Center (CSUR) for Brachial โฃPlexus Surgery, completing between 35 and 40 โฃcomplex proceduresโฃ each year for patients nationwide.
Beyond brachial plexus โขrepair, the โdepartment specializes in burn care, limb reconstructionsโฃ (upper and lower), muscle functional transplants, wrist arthroscopies, and peripheral nerve surgery. Close โขcollaborations with โthe Breast Pathology Unit, otorhinolaryngology, neurosurgery, thoracic surgery, and โtraumatology departments allow for comprehensive care,โค including breast reconstructions and treatment of complex trauma and chestโ wall defects.
throughout its history, the department has achieved several national firsts, including theโ first reimplantation of an amputated finger in Spain in 1978,โค performed by Dr. Peรฑa; the first free jejunal flap reconstructionโ of a pharyngeal defect in theโฃ contry in 1990, led by Dr.Sรกnchez Lorenzo; and a vascularized allotransplant โขof one arm โคfor a patient with bilateralโข amputation in 2012, a procedure undertaken by the entire โคteam.
