Latinโ American Scholars Converge to explore Intersections of โขMusic,Gender,and Diversity
Buenos Aires,Argentina โข – The V โคLatin American Meeting โขofโ Music,Gender andโข Diversity commenced โtoday,October 1st,at the universidad Nacionalโ de lasโฃ Artes (UNA),bringing โtogether researchers,artists,and activists to examine critical perspectives within the field of music. The two-day eventโข features a โคdiverse programโ of panels, presentations, and performances centered around themes โคof gender dissidence, critical pedagogies, body politics, feministโ activism, and careโ withinโ Latin American musical contexts.
The meeting’s schedule includes presentations such โas โJesรบs Antonio Cรณrdoba Romero’s research โขon “Female participation in metal bands during 2024 events inโค Colombia” and โคPaula Mesa’sโ exploration of โ”Art โฃyโ Genre from a โขLatin American approach.” A keynoteโ conference will โขbeโค delivered by Susan McClary, Fynette H. Kulasโ Professor of โMusic at Case Western Reserve university โand Distinguished Professor Emerita โat โคUCLA.
Several panels โคfocus โon activism and its manifestation within musical institutions. Table 6,โ dedicated โขto “activism, care and new artistic looks,” will feature presentations on topics ranging โfrom โขtransfeminist artisticโ power in coastal carnivals to โthe development of a “Musical care protocol: feminist and collectiveโข activism from a music union” โขby Marcela Inostroza Valdรฉsโ and Leonela Berenice Vogel.
The meeting also highlightsโ emerging scholarship, including Tzitzitlini sanabria Calvo’sโข bookโข presentationโ on “Community musical groups and gender outlook.” โThe event will conclude with a musical performance by “La Hive” on October 2nd.
