Uttarakhand Floods: Monsoon Retreat Brings Devastation to Dehradun

Dehradun,Uttarakhand is reeling from a fresh wave of destruction as the retreating monsoon unleashes torrential rainfall and a series of cloudbursts. The catastrophic weather event, beginning Monday night, has tragically claimed at least 17 lives and left 13 individuals missing, according to the latest reports.
Widespread destruction and Rising River Levels
The relentless downpour has triggered widespread devastation across the region, washing away critical infrastructure including roads, bridges, and homes. Rivers,swollen with rainwater,have transformed into perilous torrents,exacerbating the crisis. The Sahasradhara and Maldevta areas have been especially hard hit.
Rivers Rispana and Bindal are currently flowing well above danger levels, submerging residential colonies and inundating homes with debris. Numerous shops and hotels have been swept away by the force of the raging waters.
Rescue Operations Underway, Toll Continues to Rise
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is actively engaged in rescue operations, but the situation remains critical. An SDRF official confirmed, “Seventeen people have died after being swept away in rivers or buried under debris at different locations, while over 13 remain missing.” Authorities are also investigating the recovery of two bodies from the Mauth river, determining if they are connected to the current disaster.
As of Tuesday evening, the district management has officially confirmed 13 fatalities, three injuries, and 13 people reported missing.
Chief Minister Assesses Damage and Pledges Support
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh dhami personally inspected the affected areas, including Maldevta and Kesarwala, to assess the extent of the damage.He has directed officials to expedite relief and rescue efforts,and has assured affected families of full government support.
