OREM, Utah – Tyler Robinson has been arrestedโ and charged in connection with the shooting of Charlie Kirk, โa conservative political commentator,โ at Utah Valley Universityโ (UVU) on Wednesday, September 10th. Robinson, currently held in Utah County jail, facesโ charges of aggravated murder,โ obstruction of justice, andโ discharging a firearm. The UVU campusโ remained closed followingโ the shooting, โคwithโฃ a visible police presence maintaining a perimeter.
The shooting prompted a campus lockdown and a swift inquiry by authorities. Evidence collected at the scene, including โฃbullet casings, has โrevealed potential ideological โคmotivations. Some casings contained references too internet memes and trolling, while others displayed โanti-fascist symbols, including the three lowerโ arrows commonly associated with the movement. โOne casing bore the message “Hey fascist! Catch!” and another included lyrics fromโข a song honoring Italianโ resistance fighters during Worldโค War II.Authorities also noted โฃRobinson’s โขapparentโฃ activity on โขDiscord, a social media platform popular with gamers and โขother communities.
According to inmate capture sheets obtained by the BBC, Robinson is accused โof aggravatedโ murder, obstructing justice, and discharging a firearm. The prosecutor โขintends to โfile anโ official demand for Robinson on Tuesday, September 16th.
Studentsโค at UVU expressed relief โฃat the arrest. McKinley Shinkle, a first-year student, โstated, โ”Heโค wasโค arrested at Washingtonโข County, myโค place โof origin.โฃ I โfeel very embarrassed.” Her cousin, Anthony, added, “I’m really relieved. I just want to know the motive and why this happened.”
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation. Charlie Kirk was on campus to deliver a speech when the incident occurred.
