US Secretary of State discusses humanitarian needs in Gaza with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman

(CNN) – US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said, on Monday, via the “X” platform, that he discussed with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in the winter camp in Al-Ula Governorate in Saudi Arabia, “the importance of urgently responding to the humanitarian needs in Gaza, and preventing further attacks.” Spread of conflict.

According to the official Saudi News Agency (SPA), the two sides exchanged views on “developments in the regional and international situation, especially the events in Gaza and its environs, and efforts regarding them.”

The Saudi Crown Prince stressed “the importance of stopping military operations (in Gaza), intensifying more efforts at the humanitarian level, and working to create conditions for the return of stability and restoring the path of peace to ensure that the Palestinian people obtain their legitimate rights and achieve just and lasting peace,” according to SPA.

The US Secretary of State said in a press conference in Saudi Arabia before going to Israel that he discussed normalization between Israel and Saudi Arabia during a meeting with the Saudi Crown Prince.

The possibility of Saudi Arabia joining the so-called “Abraham Accords” was a major goal of the Biden administration before the October 7 attacks, and officials said at the time that some progress had been made.

Blinken added at the press conference: “There is a clear interest here in continuing” normalization, and he continued: “There is a clear interest in the region in pursuing this, but that will require ending the conflict in Gaza and it will also clearly require that there be a practical path to the establishment of a Palestinian state.”

He continued: “This is what I heard from everyone we talked to about this topic. But the interest is there. It is real.”

Antony Blinken later stated, via “X”: “Even when we focus on immediate goals, we must also work to achieve lasting peace and security,” and added: “The United States has a vision for a regional approach that provides permanent security for Israel and a state for the Palestinian people.”

He continued: “This conflict must not expand. We condemn the Houthi attacks in the Red Sea – one of the busiest trade lanes – which led to the disruption or diversion of approximately 20% of global shipping, and this increases the cost and time of transporting food, fuel, medicine and humanitarian aid.” .

US Administration Bypasses Congress to Approve $150 Million Military Equipment Sale to Israel

(CNN) – For the second time this month, the US administration bypassed Congress to approve the sale of $150 million worth of military equipment to Israel.

A US State Department spokesman said on Friday that Secretary of State Anthony Blinken informed Congress that he had taken an emergency decision to immediately approve the sale of 155 mm M107 rifles and related equipment to Israel.

He added: “Given the urgency of Israel’s defense needs, the Secretary informed Congress that he exercised his delegated authority to designate an existing state of emergency that required immediate approval.”

Additional items were added to previous sales, “bringing the total value of the sale to $147.5 million,” the spokesperson continued.

Earlier this month, the US administration rushed to sell thousands of munitions to Israel, bypassing the usual twenty-day period given to congressional committees to review such a sale.

The US State Department sent an emergency announcement to the oversight committees in Congress that more than 13,000 tank shells would be delivered to Israel without any “further information, details, or guarantees.”

A US State Department spokesperson said at the time: “We remain clear with the government of Israel that it must adhere to international humanitarian law and take every possible step to avoid harm to civilians.”

The $106 million deal was part of a larger order to sell a total of 45,000 tank shells to Israel.

(CNN) — An Israeli official told CNN that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is expected to travel to Israel and the Middle East region next week to discuss the next steps in the war between Israel and Hamas.

CNN has contacted the US State Department for comment.

Dermer, a member of the Israeli Defense Cabinet and former ambassador to the United States, left the White House more than 4 hours after his meeting with Blinken and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

A White House official told CNN that the discussions covered “the transition to a different phase of the war aimed at maximizing focus on high-value Hamas targets, steps to improve the humanitarian situation and reduce harm to civilians, and – securing the release of the remaining hostages, as well as planning for the future.” Gaza after the conflict.

US Congress Urged to Act Quickly on Ukraine Funding Before Winter, Says Speaker

US Congress Urged to Act Quickly on Ukraine Funding Before Winter, Says Speaker

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com December 20, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The speaker commented on the words of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, who expressed confidence in the support of Ukraine from the United States.

“We (the executive branch) absolutely support Ukraine. We are absolutely prepared to support additional funding for Ukraine. We have one package left that we can provide to Ukraine this year, and after that we will exhaust our options for providing additional security assistance, so I I think this is a question for the US Congress,” he said.

Miller stressed that Congress must make a decision on Ukraine before the end of the year, since a difficult winter period lies ahead.

“We want it (the US President’s request – ed.) to be passed by the end of this year. That remains our goal and our priority. Congress will have to decide whether they are going to support Ukraine and provide the funding necessary to counter the Russian invasion because we are entering a winter that we expect will be very difficult, or they are not planning to do so,” the speaker said.

According to Miller, President Joe Biden’s administration does not have an alternative plan to provide assistance to Ukraine. He stressed that funding sources will dry up over the next few weeks, so “we need Congress to act.”

What Zelensky said

On December 19, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky gave a large press conference at which he commented on the issues of financing assistance to Ukraine from the United States. The head of state expressed confidence that the United States will not betray Ukraine, and assistance funding will be accepted.

“As for financial assistance. We are working very hard on this. I am sure that the United States will not betray us and what we agreed on in the United States will be implemented in full,” Zelensky said.

(CNN) – US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said on Monday that his country demands the “immediate release” of the cargo ship and its crew that were kidnapped by the Houthis in the Red Sea.

Miller added, in a press conference: “The Houthis’ seizure of the Galaxy Leader ship in the Red Sea is a flagrant violation of international law,” and he continued that the United States “will consult with allies and partners regarding the next steps.”

The Houthis hijacked the cargo ship in the Red Sea on Sunday, with about 25 crew members on board.

Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno said Monday that the ship is operated by Japanese shipping and logistics company NYK (Nippon Yusen Kaisha).

Japan is currently working with Israel and has asked Saudi Arabia, Oman and Iran to urge the Houthis to release the ship and its crew as soon as possible.

Matsuno said that his country “will take the necessary measures in cooperation with the countries concerned, taking into account the development of the situation.”

An American official explains why Israel approved the entry of fuel into Gaza

An American official explains why Israel approved the entry of fuel into Gaza

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 17, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

(CNN) – A US State Department official announced on Friday that the Israeli government will allow 140,000 liters of fuel to enter Gaza every 48 hours after weeks of American pressure.

After the Israeli government voted in favor of the entry of fuel, on Thursday, 120,000 liters will be allowed to be deposited every 48 hours in a warehouse in Rafah for use by UNRWA trucks and other things such as water desalination, well and sewage pumping, waste disposal, bakeries and hospitals. The American official said that All in southern Gaza.

The other 20,000 will be used to operate generators for mobile phones and the Internet.

The issue of allowing fuel entry was a major issue during US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s meetings in Tel Aviv two weeks ago, and after those meetings, Blinken said that the two sides “identified mechanisms to deliver fuel to hospitals and other needs in the south.”

For the next two weeks, the United States was pressuring Israel to actually make it happen.

The Israeli government delayed in part because it claimed there was still fuel in southern Gaza, and it also linked the fuel issue to the hostage issue.

The American official said that the United States does not believe that the two issues are related, noting that the Hamas movement does not care about the humanitarian plight of the people of Gaza.

The official added that Blinken on Wednesday called Ron Dermer, Minister of Strategic Affairs and an ally of Benjamin Netanyahu, and told him that “there is no longer time to delay, and that Gaza is on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe,” and stressed that “they cannot wait until the hostages are released to allow fuel to enter Gaza.” “Even one week will cost many lives.”

Dermer agreed that the government would vote on the decision to allow the entry of fuel, according to the US State Department official.

Before the vote, Blinken called Israeli Minister Benny Gantz and stressed the need to allow fuel to enter, and the American official described the call as “important.”

The official said that the United States will continue to pressure the Israeli government to allow more fuel to enter.
