“We have credible reports”: USA fears newโ Hamas attack on civilians
October 19,โ 2025, 1:11 a.m.โค – The โUnited States State Department has issued โฃa warning โof a potential imminent attack byโ Hamas targeting Palestinian civilians, just over a week after a โฃceasefire โขwas establishedโฃ between Israel and Hamas. The U.S. has alerted โguarantor powers of the Gaza peace plan,โ citing “credible โคreports” indicating a possible violation of theโ existingโ ceasefire, according to a statement fromโ the department headed by Marco Rubio.
Such anโ attack would “constitute aโ direct and โseriousโ violation of the ceasefire agreement” and jeopardizeโ ongoing โฃpeaceโ efforts, the State Department said.Guarantor powers are urging Hamas “to fulfill itsโ obligationsโข underโ the ceasefire agreement,” and warning that “measures will be taken toโค protect the people of โคGaza and preserve the ceasefire” should an attack occur.
The โUnited States and other guarantor nations reaffirmed thier commitment โto civilian safety, regional stability, and the pursuit of peace and prosperity for Gaza and the โฃbroader region.
The warning comesโข after Israel andโ Hamas reached an agreement on the initial phase ofโค a peace plan recently presented by US President Trumpโข following indirect โคnegotiationsโข in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, a week prior. โค
On Thursday, Trump โฃthreatened Hamas with lethal โconsequences should โฃthe organization continue attacks in the gaza Strip, stating,โ “we will have no choice but to โgoโฃ in and kill them” on truth Social. He later clarified at the white House that no U.S. โฃforces would enter Gaza, suggesting Israel’s army, with U.S. backing, could intervene. This โfollowedโ international condemnation of reported killings of civilians in the Gaza Strip by Hamas fighters.
The current tensions stem from the October 7, 2023, โattacks by Hamas and other extremist โPalestinian organizations, which resulted in approximately 1,200 โdeaths and over 250 abductions in Israel. Israel responded with extensive aerial and ground operations, leading to over 67,000 fatalities reported by โthe Hamas-controlled health authority in Gaza.
