Beijing has launched a โnationwide fire safetyโข inspection and remediation campaign following the devastating Hong โKong residential building fire that claimed at least 128 lives. The initiative, announced Saturday byโค the Work Safety Committee of the State Council, China’s โขcabinet, โaims to addressโข fire hazardsโ in โขall high-rise buildings, including residential towers, offices,โค hospitals, andโค shopping complexes, according to state media reports.
The campaign will focus on “identifying and rectifying” fire risks, with particularโ attention paid to buildings โundergoing renovations โor refurbishments. Key areas ofโ concern โฃinclude unsafe construction practices, the use of flammable materials, malfunctioning fire protectionโ systems, and inadequate daily safety management.
Authorities stated theโค goal is “to comprehensively strengthen fire safety management in highโrise buildings and effectively โฃsafeguard โpeople’s lives and property.”
The Hong Kong blaze in the Tai Po district is considered oneโ of the world’s worst residential building disasters since 1980 and โคthe city’sโ deadliestโ inโ eight decades. approximately 150โ people remain unaccounted for as โคHong Kong observes a three-day period of โฃmourning.
