RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA – Saudi Arabia has unveiled plans for a massive water channel project, estimated to cost $80 billion, designed to link the Arabian Gulf to the Arabian Sea via a route traversing Saudi Arabia and Yemen.The ambitious undertaking aims to transform vast stretches of the Empty Quarter desert into arable land, bolstering food security, creating economic opportunities, and enhancing the Kingdom’s strategic independence.

Converting the Desert into an Oasis: The core of the project involves converting large areas of the Empty Quarter Desert into agricultural lands, utilizing desalinated water and advanced irrigation systems.
Renewable Energy Integration: The plan includes the construction of 10 nuclear energy stations, each with a capacity of 5 to 50 gigawatts, alongside solar farms boasting a 50-gigawatt capacity.This supports Saudi Arabia’s goal of generating 50% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030.
