Newโ York, โNYโ -โ October 3, 2025 – A โformer โdoorman on the Upper West Side was sentenced todayโ to 1 1/2 toโฃ 4 1/2 years in prison after pleading guilty to stealing โnearly $480,000 from elderly residents โoverโฃ a three-year period. โขThe โcaseโ highlights theโ vulnerabilityโ of seniors to financial exploitation and โฃunderscores โthe importance ofโข vigilance within residential buildings.
Between 2022 and 2025,Victor Delgado,34,abused his position of trust to pilfer checks and cash from residents of a buildingโฃ on West 86th Street. Delgado exploited โhisโฃ access to mail and building services to intercept and cash checks, and directly steal money from residents, primarily targeting individuals over the age ofโ 65. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office initiated โขthe examination following โcomplaints โfrom residents and the building’sโ management.
“This defendant systematically preyed on vulnerable โelderly residents,โ betraying their โtrust for personal gain,” stated Manhattanโฃ District Attorney Alvinโฃ Bragg โin a press release. “This sentence โsends a clear โคmessage โคthat we will vigorously prosecute โthose whoโ target seniorsโ for financial exploitation.”
Prosecutors detailed how Delgado usedโ the stolen funds for personal expenses, including travel and entertainment. The investigation revealed a pattern of fraudulent โactivity, wiht Delgado forging signatures and โฃaltering checks to conceal his crimes. He was arrested in March โ2025 and โsubsequentlyโ pleaded guilty to grand larceny โคand โforgery charges.
As part of the sentencing, Delgado โฃwas ordered to pay full restitution to the victims.
