Rise in Value of Pound: Impact on Indian Rupee and UK Property Market

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com July 13, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

LONDON • The Indian rupee eased against the UK pound after a long hiatus. With this, the value of one UK pound became Rs 107.30. In 2022, the value fell to Rs 86 in a few months. After Rishi Sunak became Prime Minister, the value of the pound crossed 100 INR. But in the interim it had gone down to 100. Currently, the rise in the value of the pound is a benefit to Malayalis, including those who send money back home.

The pound benefited from a rise in interest rates in the UK and a slight weakening of the dollar in global markets. But the rise in the value of the pound is a setback for those who are planning to sell their properties in the country and send money to the UK. The current rate increase is beneficial for those who come to the UK to work on a student visa and those who work on a post-study work visa after their studies. Most of the people who send money back home belong to these categories.

Those who have settled in the UK as a family usually spend the money they earn here. For them, the appreciation of the Indian value of the UK pound is unlikely to bring much benefit. In March 2023, the UK pound depreciated to INR 97.07 and crossed 100 again in April. Now stands at the best value of 107.30.

Sun exposure and outdoor activities should be avoided in the middle of the day. The Ministry of Health has advised drinking plenty of water, eating light meals and storing medicines properly. Pets should also be taken care of.

Police Seize Cannabis Plants Worth 130 Million Pounds in Major UK Operation

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com July 7, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

London ∙ In the UK, the police seized cannabis plants worth 130 million pounds from various places. Following this, around 1,000 people were arrested. The raids took place in England and Wales last June. More than 1,80,000 cannabis plants were seized from various raids. 20 firearms worth £1m, £636,000 in illegal cash and 20kg of cocaine were seized in the raid. It is one of the largest operations ever undertaken in the UK. Last day, the National Police Chiefs Council released the complete information regarding this.

Officials clarified that the police operation was aimed at the source of income of organized crime gangs involved in crimes such as money laundering, class A drug trafficking and violence. Cannabis is not a class A drug like heroin or cocaine. But they are being cultivated on a large scale as a major source of illegal income for criminal gangs. The aim of the raid was to identify the main source of income of the criminal gangs and arrest those involved.

The National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) chief, Lead Steve Jupp, said that the number of criminal cases in the country has reduced drastically due to the new measures taken by the police. 11,000 officers from 43 police forces in England and Wales, the National Crime Agency and Immigration Enforcement issued 1,000 warrants in June alone. A case has been registered against more than 450 of those arrested.
