Ho Chi Minhโ City Aims tooโข Become a Major Film โฃHub, Investingโค in Talent and Support Policies
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam – A concerted effort is underway to โestablish Ho Chi Minh City as a prominent international film production centre, attracting directors โand bolsteringโ the Vietnamese cinematic landscape. The initiative focuses on fostering โขlocalโ talent through โขeducationalโข programs and implementing support policies โfor filmmakers, according to a recent report in โฃ thanhnien โnewspaper.
The move to โbecome โa “film city” is intended to promote Vietnam’s image internationally through the power of cinema and create opportunities for collaboration between Vietnamese and global โฃfilmmakers. However, officials recognizeโฃ the โneed for comprehensive development, particularly in human resources.โค
Actor Hong An emphasizedโฃ the importance of integrating film education into schools, โstating, “I am very satisfied with the direction of โฃintroducing film intoโ schools. Whenโค children are exposed to film as a form of art and education,โ they will learn to value, love and respect creativity. I believe this is the most lasting foundation for the future of film in Ho chiโ minh City.”
Facing competition from both domestic โคand โขforeign productions, and acknowledging the inherent risks of filmโ production, โฃindustry stakeholders are advocating for government support in the form of tax breaks and favorable loan conditions for productionโ companies. Theyโ also stress the responsibility of those within โขthe industry to elevate the quality ofโ Vietnamese cinema.
In September 2025, Ho โChi Minh City hosted actor Hwa Gwang-han for a press conference promoting a new film, signaling โคthe city’s growing appeal as a locationโข for international projects.
