Kershaw โReceives Emotionalโฃ Farewellโ at Dodger Stadium
Clayton Kershaw concluded his homeโฃ career at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, pitching in the โLos Angelesโ Dodgers’ 6-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants. The 37-year-old pitcher, โขwho has โannounced his retirement at the end of the season, was honored with a sustainedโข standing ovation from the crowd.
Kershawโ navigated aโข challenging start, โฃissuing โคfour walks and conceding some runsโฃ against the Giants. Despiteโ the arduous innings, the โdodgersโ (87-67) secured the win, extending their playoff โstreak to 13 consecutive appearances.
The game took on a particularly emotional tone when manager Dave Roberts removed Kershaw after 4 1/3 innings.Following a final strikeout, Kershaw embraced โhis teammates and acknowledged the cheering fans with a tipโ of his cap, prompting โaโ minutes-long ovation.
“Iโ am infinitely grateful for every โฃsingle Dodgers fan โwho came to the stadium โhere, and for allโค the people I got to know this way,” โขkershaw shared after the โฃgame. “It was something very โspecial to have this fan base over the years. There isโ nothing better โthan steppingโ onto the mound in front of a fully โคoccupied Dodger Stadium.”
teammates were mindful of Kershaw’s preference forโข a low-key โfarewell.โ Max Muncy revealed a day prior that Kershaw would be uncomfortable with excessive fanfare, stating, “When it comes โคto Clayton, nothing more would annoy him than if you staged something like this. So โขwe will just go out โขasโ normal, play โคas hard as possible – and get a victory.”
Throughout hisโฃ Majorโค League Baseball career, beginningโ in Los Angeles, Kershaw has earned three Cy Young awards and an MVP award. He โขrecently reached aโ milestone thisโค July,โข recordingโข his 3000thโข strikeout, and finishedโ his final home appearance with his 3045th career strikeout.
The standsโฃ at Dodger Stadium wereโ filled with supporters, including childhood friendโค and Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, as wellโ as โseveral former โคteammates, all thereโ to honor the veteran pitcher.
