Spanish Female Soccer Players Continue National Team Boycott After Controversial World Cup Ceremony

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 19, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

According to Reuters, Spanish female soccer players intend to continue the boycott of the national team, which they announced because of the behavior of former union president Luis Rubiales after the final of the World Cup, where he kissed female players during the ceremony.

In a joint statement after Monday’s nomination, they said they would make the best decision for their future and health after studying the legal implications of being named to the team against their will. They claim that the union cannot demand their participation because it called them up against the principles set by the international federation FIFA.

For the upcoming League of Nations matches with Sweden and Switzerland, the new coach Montse Toméová included 15 of this year’s world champions in the team. They are supposed to have a meeting today.

“We regret that the union has put us in a situation we never wanted,” reads the statement, which has no signatures. Some of the players including stars Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmatí shared the text on social networks.

The calling of female players to the national team, despite the announced boycott, was criticized by forward Jenni Hermosová, who is the central figure in the affair surrounding Rubiales. Because of a kiss on the mouth during the announcement ceremony after the World Cup final, she sued the officials for sexual assault. She herself is missing from the nomination. According to coach Toméová, she wants to give her peace in a heated situation.

According to Hermosová, the current nomination is proof that nothing has changed in the national association. After the departure of Rubiales and the coach of the golden team, Jorge Vilda, the players demanded other changes, which they did not specify. For refusing to represent the national team without a serious reason, female footballers face a fine of up to 30,000 euros (about 732,000 crowns) and the revocation of their license for two to 15 years.

“The players are sure that this is another strategic move to divide and manipulate us. Threats of legal consequences and economic sanctions are meant to intimidate us,” Hermos said on the social network X, formerly Twitter. “They say the union environment is safe and female players can join the team. And then in a press conference they say they want to protect me. From who? From what?” added the Mexican Pachuca player.

The Spanish soccer players are to play the League of Nations on Friday in Sweden, the match against Switzerland is planned for Tuesday, September 26 in Córdoba.

Exciting Semi-Final Match: Netherlands vs Croatia in Football Nations League

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com June 15, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The balanced first half at the De Kuip stadium offered the only better chance, and a goal. In the 34th minute, Malen got a lot of time to process the ball in the penalty area and hit the post with a cross. The 24-year-old Dortmund striker confirmed his form with his fifth national team goal, scoring eight goals in the last 11 competitive matches.

The Croats equalized soon after the change of sides. In the 55th minute, Gakpo brought down Modrič in the penalty area and Kramarič converted the penalty kick with ease. The Hoffenheim gunner is also enjoying a successful end to the season, for eight hits he needed only two games more than the scorer of the opening goal of today’s duel.

Coach Dalič’s men were more active in the second half and took the lead for the first time in the 72nd minute. Ivanušec found Pašalić with a cross into the box, who beat Bijlow for the second time on the volley. Nevertheless, the home side extended their unbeaten run in regular time at the De Kuip Stadium to 32 games in a row. In the last sixth minute of regulation, Lang was the best in the scrum and sent the duel to overtime with a technical shot.

But only the Balkan team scored in it. First, Petkovič hit the near post with a shot from 20 meters, and in the 116th minute, captain Modrič closed the scoring with another penalty. After 40 matches, the Dutch left defeated in a match in which they took a 1-0 lead.

After the fight for bronze at the 1998 World Championship, the Croatians defeated today’s opponent in the second competitive matchup and will play for the trophy in their first appearance in the Final Four. “Oranje”, on the other hand, will not repeat their participation in the final from the premier edition of the League of Nations in 2019.
