West Ham Fans Give Footballers Tumultuous Welcome After Triumph in European Conference League

West Ham fans gave the footballers a tumultuous welcome in the streets of East London after their triumph in the European Conference League. Crowds escorted the players with the club’s first major trophy in decades riding in open-top buses emblazoned with ‘Winners’.

The team’s triumphant ride with Czech representatives Tomáš Souček and Vladimír Coufal culminated after 10 p.m. SELČ in front of the town hall in Stratford.

David Moyes’ men went on a celebratory drive after returning from the Prague final of the second year of the European Conference League, in which they defeated Fiorentina 2:1 at the Slavia Stadium in Eden.

Buses of footballers left from The Champions statue commemorating the West Ham players who helped England win the World Cup in 1966. They made their way slowly through the streets filled with cheering fans, thousands of people were waiting for the winning team carrying the silver trophy.

Boisterous celebrations then broke out at the town hall, where players and fans sang and danced. “We wanted to win for the fans, bring them the trophy and we did it. And look how much it means to us and to the fans,” Jarrod Bowen, who scored the winning goal in the 90th minute, said from the City Hall balcony. “That time, the winning goal in the last minute of the European final, you can’t make it up. I still haven’t digested it,” he added.

Captain Declan Rice and coach Moyes then showed the trophy to the fans and received a huge ovation. Blue confetti flew into the air and set off white and blue smoke cannons. “Unbelievable. We had amazing support in Prague and here in East London it’s sensational,” Moyes thanked the fans. “Now we will enjoy what we have achieved – 14 wins and one draw in the European Conference League. Last year we reached the semi-finals, but this year we won,” he added.

Osasuna footballers secure European Conference League qualification after 17 years

After 17 years, Osasuna footballers will play in European cups. Qualification for the European Conference League was guaranteed for the team from Pamplona in the final 38th round of the Spanish league with a 2:1 win over Girona, in which Croatian striker Ante Budimir contributed with both goals.

Valladolid relegated, a goalless draw with Getafe was not enough for them in the rescue battle between six threatened teams. Champion Barcelona lost to Celta Vigo 1:2. Karim Benzema bid farewell to a 14-year spell at Real Madrid with a penalty goal as his side finished second after a 1-1 draw with Bilbao.

Atlético Madrid lost the lead to Villarreal late on and remained third after a 2-2 draw. Europa League winner Sevilla lost 1:2 to fourth-placed San Sebastian.

Osasuna secured the seventh place thanks to a successful start to the second act, when Budimir finished Barji’s individual action into an empty net in the 52nd minute and added a second goal three minutes later with a header. Girona only managed to reduce in the end when the Brazilian Reinier, who is in the team on loan from Real Madrid, made his mark.

Valladolid only drew with Getafe and returns to the second highest league after a year. Until the very end of the season, Almería had hopes, but in the 87th minute of the match with already relegated Español, Barcelona managed to equalize at 3:3. A point was enough for Almeria to stay among the elite.

Celta Vigo coped with champions Barcelona and thus avoided relegation. The victory was decided by the young Veiga, who first opened the score of the match in the 42nd minute and in the 65th minute he overcame Ter Stegen with a beautiful lob from the edge of the box to make it 2:0. He was only able to reduce Fati for the visitors.

In the match between Betis and Valencia, the home side said goodbye to club legend Joaquín, who ended his career at the age of 41. The Spanish midfielder made his 622nd Spanish league appearance, equaling goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta’s record. Betis drew with Valencia 1:1.

The “White Ballet” needed to win over Bilbao to secure second place, but they were losing from the 50th minute when Sancet was given enough space to finish his own shot. Twenty minutes later, Real kicked a penalty after an elbow to Militao’s face, and Benzema converted it with a shot into the middle of the goal.

The French forward started his final and 439th league game for Real today, tying Fernando Hierro for sixth in appearances for the club.

In the end, Real became the runner-up despite the draw, as its city rival Atlético only drew at Villarreal. After Jackson’s opening goal, the guests managed to turn the game around, Griezmann twice set up a goal for Correa. The French forward is the most productive player in the competition with 15 goals and 16 assists. But Atlético took second place in the third minute of Pascal’s setup.

“West Ham Fan Knollsy Becomes Media Darling After Standing Up to Alkmaar Supporters”

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com May 20, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

A West Ham fan called Knollsy has become an unexpected darling of the English media. He gained attention by standing up to a group of Alkmaar supporters who attacked family members of the London club’s football players right in the stadium after Thursday’s second leg of the European Conference League semi-final.

After the final whistle, which sealed the 1-0 win, West Ham footballers began to rejoice on the Alkmaar pitch for the dream promotion to the final of the European Conference League.

They didn’t wait long. The snoring was replaced by fear for loved ones. They were attacked by a group of home supporters and several Hammers players, including captain Declan Rice or midfielder Jarrod Bowen, immediately ran to the sector where a fight broke out.

“The players got involved because it was a stand with families. But our supporters didn’t do anything,” West Ham coach David Moyes, whose father was among the fans, lamented.

Mela was stopped by the police, but videos began to circulate on social networks, which made a media star out of a fan called Knollsy. He stood up to a horde of Alkmaar supporters and prevented them from reaching the players’ relatives with his own body and fists.

“We were attacked by AZ fans. Knollsy has an artificial hip so he can’t run. But most of all he’s a decent guy and he was worried about close players and former West Ham players who were sitting around us,” The Sun newspaper quoted Freddie Bonfanti as saying.

“We were sitting behind Thilo Kehrer’s girlfriend (West Ham defender). Knollsy was worried about her so he went to the top of the stairs and confronted the Alkmaar fans. He did what he felt was right and stopped those fans,” Bonfanti recounted. “I’m proud to be his friend and that he made sure it didn’t turn into a worse incident,” he added.

Alkmaar coach Pascal Jansen and the players condemned the behavior of the home fans. “I’m ashamed, this doesn’t belong in stadiums. Even if you lose, you have to control yourself,” said the coach, whose family and other Dutch supporters were the target of a similar attack during the opening semi-final in London.

“It’s sad. I had a girlfriend and family there and they told me they were knocking with fear,” added defender Pantelis Chatzidiakos. “These weren’t even fans. If they want to do this, they better stay at home,” he added.

Knollsy’s story and photos of him with a torn T-shirt and scars on his face were reported by the English media. “Give him a ticket to the final,” urged Bonfanti in a post on Twitter, and the fans in the discussions overwhelmingly agree that the club should really give Knollsy the match in Prague.

The Hammers with Czech footballers Tomáš Souček and Vladimír Coufal will fight for the trophy on June 7 against Fiorentina in Prague’s Eden. And Knollsy will probably be there.
