Appleton High School Soccer Star Lainey Higgins Signs Pro Contract in Cyprus

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor July 26, 2025
written by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

HereS a rewritten version of the article, aiming for 100% uniqueness while retaining the core information:

From UWM to Cyprus: Lainey Higgins Embarks on European Soccer Journey

Former University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women’s soccer standout Lainey Higgins has taken a significant leap in her athletic career, signing a professional contract to play for Apollon FC in Cyprus. This move marks a considerable departure for Higgins, who describes herself as a “homebody.”

“Honestly, it’s something I coudl never imagine myself doing,” Higgins admitted. “I always thought of myself as a big homebody. My college was less than two hours away from my hometown. So doing this was something that even I was completely shocked that I was about to do. But it’s something that has really made me step out of my comfort zone and everyone here on the team has made the transition super easy.”

Higgins will not be navigating this new European experience alone. The team bolstered its roster in July by signing two other American players: Abi Hugh from Marshall university and Mallory Mooney from Auburn. The presence of fellow americans in a similar transitional phase provides Higgins with a significant sense of comfort.

“There are a couple of other girls in the same position that I was in terms of taking in this whole new lifestyle and adventure,” she shared. “It was comforting that there would be some fellow Americans with me and helping in my transition process here. We’re doing everything together and learning new things and going through it all together, which makes it easier.”

The club has facilitated the players’ living arrangements, with higgins and nine other teammates residing together in a house provided by apollon FC. Similar to her college experience, the setup offers individual rooms and a communal living environment. The team also benefits from shared transportation, with three cars available for the players.

“There’s 10 of us that live in a house and we all have our own room, so it’s kind of similar to college,” Higgins explained. “There’s a bunch of us girls living together, which is kind of fun becuase there are girls from tons of different countries and experiencing this together. We have three cars amongst us all, too.”

Looking ahead, Higgins hopes this European stint will serve as a stepping stone toward her ultimate goal of playing professionally in the United States.

“I’m hoping to play in the States eventually, but I think this was a good start overseas,” she stated. “My mind kind of shifted, you know, when I’m proudly going to have to move across the globe, something I was willing to do and excited to do.”

Higgins is embracing the prospect to develop her skills and experience new cultures. “I think right now I kind of want to take every opportunity that I can. Would love to continue improving my own personal skill and getting that travel aspect.Kind of exploring Europe would be cool and something I’ve never done before, and something that I want to take advantage of when I can.”

Missed Opportunities Plague Dortmund

The scoreline could have been far more emphatic had it not been for a series of missed chances, particularly by Serhou Guirassy. The Guinean striker, who finished the season as a joint top scorer in the Champions League alongside FC Barcelona’s Raphinha, uncharacteristically squandered several opportunities in front of goal. Julien Duranville and Yan Couto also missed clear chances to extend Dortmund’s lead.

Juventus Fears: President’s Sleepless Nights Over Kenan & Osimhen

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com April 25, 2025
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Juventus Faces Financial and Technical Hurdles ahead of Champions League Return

As Juventus prepares for a likely return to the UEFA Champions League, the Italian club is bracing for significant challenges both on and off the field. Financial constraints and potential player departures loom large, casting a shadow over their ambitions for the upcoming season.

Potential Player Exodus Looms

Juventus could see a significant roster shakeup if they fail to secure Champions League qualification. According to la Gazzetta dello Sport, the separation of many players in the Turin team is on the agenda. Several players may be on the chopping block, including:

  • Douglas Luiz
  • Mattia Perin
  • Renato veiga
  • Weston McKennie

These players are reportedly being considered for departure. Moreover, the high cost of maintaining loaned players like Francisco Conceicao from Porto and Randal Kolo Muani from PSG makes their continued presence economically unfeasible.

Financial Fair Play Concerns

Juventus’s past financial decisions continue to haunt them. The club faced losses of €208 million during the 2023-24 season after being banned from European competition for violating UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules [3]. This financial strain impacts their ability to make new signings and retain key players.

Did you know? Juventus spent €250 million more than any other italian club in the last five seasons, but this spending proved unsustainable [3].

The potential revenue from the UEFA Champions League is a source of anxiety for the management. The club is hesitant to sell star player Kenan Yıldız, but financial constraints may prevent them from pursuing transfer targets such as Osimhen, Tonali, and Sudakov.

The Huijsen Paradox

Juventus’s transfer strategy has come under scrutiny, particularly regarding young talent. Last summer, the club sold Dean Huijsen to Bournemouth for €15 million, a move initially seen as a financial win [1]. However,Huijsen’s subsequent success in the Premier League, where he thrived… earning recognition as one of its most promising talents, has highlighted a potential misstep, especially as Juventus faced defensive challenges back home [1].

FAQ: Juventus’s Future

Will Juventus participate in the UEFA Champions League?
It is likely, but not yet certain.
Which players might leave Juventus?
Douglas Luiz, Mattia Perin, Renato Veiga, and Weston McKennie are among those considered.
Why is Juventus facing financial difficulties?
Past overspending and UEFA Financial Fair Play violations have created constraints.
Who are some potential transfer targets for Juventus?
Osimhen, Tonali, and Sudakov have been mentioned, but their acquisition depends on financial factors.
Pro Tip: Keep an eye on Juventus’s youth academy. Developing and retaining young talent could be a key strategy for navigating financial challenges.

Liverpool beat Real, didn’t drop a point. Krejčí’s next loss, PSV’s turnaround

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com November 28, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

The footballers of Girona in the lineup with Ladislav Krejčí lost 0:1 in the Champions League on the field of Graz and they missed out on progressing to the knockout part of the competition. Liverpool defeated the defending champions Real Madrid 2-0 at home, becoming the only team to win all five matches of the league stage so far and at the same time the first to qualify for the knockout stage. Both teams did not convert a penalty in the shootout. Crvena zvezda Belgrade blasted their October opponent Sparta Stuttgart 5:1 and, like Sturm, won the competition for the first time after four previous defeats.

The 25-year-old Czech national team member Krejčí, who scored for Girona for the first time on Saturday, played all of his previous matches in the “millionaire” competition this season. But he did not prevent the fourth defeat of the Spanish team. After less than an hour of play, Biereth decided on her from the penalty spot.

Liverpool scored both goals against Real after switching sides, Mac Allister and substitute Gakpo taking care of them. With the score 1:0, star striker Mbappé of the guests did not convert the penalty, after goalkeeper Kelleher caught the direction of the end, but on the other side, even the gunner Salah did not succeed, who hit the post.

The “Reds” have added insurance anyway and lead the joint table of 36 teams by two points ahead of Sparta’s January rivals Inter Milan. The “White Ballet” has lost the third of the last four duels in the competition and is in 24th place, which is the last to guarantee progress to the elimination phase. The first eight teams advance directly to the round of 16.

Stuttgart led in the Serbian capital from the fifth minute, but Crvena zvezda turned the score around in the first half and added three more goals after the change of sides. Substitute Radonjič took care of two of them. The German team remained on four points, as did Sparta, with whom VfB drew 1:1 at home. Prague suffered a historic 0:6 debacle at home against Atlético Madrid on Tuesday and are in 28th place.

Monaco led twice at home against Benfica Lisbon, but eventually lost 2-3. The princely club played weakened from the 58th minute after Singo was sent off, but they bounced back against the visitors again. In the end, however, the alternating players Cabral and Amdouni turned the score around. The Portuguese team won the competition after two defeats and for the third time overall. Only one point separates him from Monaco, which came out empty-handed for the first time in the league phase.

PSV Eindhoven lost to Shakhtar Donetsk by two goals after the first half, but in the end won 3:2 thanks to a wild finish. The guests were weakened in the 69th minute by the dismissal of Henrique, and the home team showed a great turnaround from the 87th minute to the fifth set. Tillman scored twice, Pepi provided the winning goal. The Dutch team scored in the LM for the fourth time in a row, the Ukrainian team has won only once so far.

Last season’s finalist of the most prestigious European competition, Dortmund won 3:0 at the Dinamo Zagreb stadium. Borussia has triumphed in the league stage in the fourth of five games and is fourth.

Aston Villa drew goalless with Juventus. The Birmingham team has 10 points and is ninth, the “Old Lady” is in 19th position with eight points.

Lille, the conqueror of Slavia Prague from this year’s qualification, won 2:1 in Bologna, Mukau scored both of the guests’ goals. The French team scored points in the competition for the fourth time in a row, won for the third time and is twelfth. Bologna remained on a single point.

Celtic Glasgow drew 1:1 at home with Brugge. Both teams are in advanced positions. Only Leipzig, Slovan Bratislava and Young Boys Bern are without a point.

The Cruel Story of Sparta Hero Kaan Kairinen: Depression and Suicidal Thoughts!

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com October 2, 2024
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

His name Kaan means King of Kings in Turkish. The one who pulls the sword from the stone. The Finnish son of a father from the Bosphorus, who died at the age of five, became the ruler of Spartan hearts, but his story is chilling.

Kaan Kairinen’s (25) free-kick shot into the sanctuary of Stuttgart meant a valuable point (1:1) in the table of the main stage of the Champions League. The midfielder with an amazing kicking technique and a director’s vision of the events on the field became the hero of the Letenské. And while…

Eating disorder

After the early death of his father, he was dependent on his mother, who had to take care of three children. She worked day and night for the family to survive. “Mom is my idol. We lived very modestly, but we always had food in the fridge and I was able to play football as well,” Kaan confessed. And football went great for him. When he was sixteen, the British newspaper The Guardian ranked him among the 50 greatest future football stars! But then everything got stuck.

Kairinen left for the Danish Midtjylland, but instead of another departure came a harsh impact. He did not make it to A and, in addition, he began to suffer personally. Without family, without friends, and with a severely damaged psyche, physical troubles came. Suddenly unable to eat, Kaan’s weight was plummeting due to an eating disorder. He lost the power to train and eventually to live. “I didn’t know where I belonged. I had no desire or motivation. I was sad, depressed, anxious. I cried for many days,” he recently spoke to the Finnish website Veikkauksen.

The desire to live on zero

The footballer described his ordeal, which Spartan fans had no idea about, in order to help other people who, like him, were thinking of the worst – suicide. “At one point my desire for life was almost at zero. Yes, at one point I also thought that there was no point anymore. I was really down.’ At the same time, Kairinen did not confide in anyone about his problems, not even his mother, who is everything to him.

“Because I would have to tell her how I was struggling… But looking back, I should have gotten help. I should have called my mom,” he realizes. In the end, it helped Kairinen that he could return to his homeland on loan. He restarted his life and career at Inter Turku. “Fortunately, everything turned out well and I got out of that environment. Somewhere in the back of my mind, my mother’s instruction remained: No matter what happens, never give up! That helped me get through the bad times,” said the spartan, who is extremely happy that mental health issues are being talked about more and more in public.

You know that…

Sparta bought Kairinen from Norwegian Lilleström in the winter of 2022 for approximately 40 million crowns.

He was healed by love

The troubles of his youth are (perhaps) definitely gone. Kaan Kairinen is beaming with happiness, which his love Linda Melissa helps him achieve abundantly.

“Now I have good and healthy family relationships and a really great relationship with a wonderful woman. I’m absolutely alive!” the Spartan midfielder confessed to a charming fashion designer who moved with him to Prague. And the joy is obviously mutual. “Love, I’m so proud of you for what you’ve accomplished!” the brunette reports.

The straight line that went around the world: Even Messi would be envious!

The debate of the employees of the MHPArena in Stuttgart under the wing of the gate: “Look, there really isn’t even a thread of a cobweb.” Sparta Kairinen, the prankster, made sure that there wasn’t one.

In the hateful backdrop of the home team, Fin’s left-hander brushed the ball against the pole in the gallows! Rivelino, Beckham and Pirlo, the masters of this craft, somehow kicked penalties. On Tuesday evening, Kairinen was among the most searched players on the transfermarkt website. com. There, Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappé, Haaland and Neymar gave him “bushes”. The video of his exhibition hit went around the world and broke the internet. Connoisseurs loved it to the point of exhaustion on social networks. “He cleaned it up decently. I don’t think there are any spiders left in that corner of the goal.” laughed Red coach Lars Friis (48).

The Germans didn’t enjoy it anymore, but they had to admit that it was a brilliant piece by the Finn. “He didn’t let the whistling distract him and made a sensational shot. The goalkeeper had no chance,” wondered the newspaper Bild. “Fluffy shot, dreamland goal,” the portal kicker.de struck an equally admiring chord. “Even Messi would be proud of such a straight line!” even the American television CBS laughed. Well, the beaming author of the football artwork, Kaan Kairinen, said with twitching corners of his mouth: “I have never scored a more beautiful goal. Every kid dreams of hitting a straight like this one day. I will remember it for the rest of my life.”

He’s laughing again! Kairinen has overcome life’s hardships and shines in life and on the lawns.
