Typhoon Fung-wong Exits Philippines, Leaving widespread Disruption and Emergency Declared
MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Fung-wong, also known as Uwan, hasโค moved awayโ from the Philippines, but โขcontinues to pose a threat from lingering rainfall, especially inโค northern Luzon โand metropolitan Manila.โ Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared โa state of emergency on Thursday in anticipation of the storm’s impact, following extensive devastation from a previous typhoon, Kalmaegi.
The storm’s passage has triggeredโ widespread cancellations of flights – over 325 domestic and 61 international โค- and stranded more than 6,600 commuters and cargo workers at ports as the coast guard haltedโฃ sea travel. Schools โand most government offices willโ remain closed on Monday โand Tuesday.โ While the typhoon itself has passed, officials from Civil Defense report roads blocked byโฃ landslides are being prioritized for clearing as weather conditions improve.
“While โคthe typhoon has passed, its rains still pose a danger in certain areas” in northern Luzon, including in metropolitan Manila,” said Undersecretary โAriel alejandro. “We’llโ undertake today rescue,relief and disaster-response operations.”
