The Woman Behind โChileS Beloved โขCueca, โ’La Consentida,’ Revealed
villarrica, Chile – The โinspiration behind one of Chile’s most iconic songs,โ ‘La Consentida,’ โขhas โbeen identified โas Alicia Rosselot, a former โฃtourism queen who captured โฃthe heart of composer Jaime Atria.โข A recent spotlight on Rosselot, featured in the โCNTV โprogram doโค remix, has renewed interest in the story โขof the couple and the originsโ of the beloved cueca.
Rosselot and Atria met โคin โ1946 when she was crowned queen โขof tourism of Chile. While staying at a hotel in Villarrica, she noticed Atria playing guitar with a friend โคon โthe terrace. “There we โขstarted โtalking and from there Iโค did โnot take off anymore,” Rosselot recalled inโค theโ interview. “Jaime had a court, he was โคobviously a personโ who came to โtheโฃ shot becauseโฃ he had an engagingโ personality, he was nice, โhe โplayed the guitar. That is, he โwas a gallant.” Their relationship blossomed, leading to โขmarriage, and ultimately, the creation of ‘la Consentida.’
In 1961, Atria composed ‘La Consentida’ to compete in the folk category of the International โคSong Festivalโ of Viรฑa del Mar, where it won first place. โขRosselotโฃ playfully suggested,โ “As far as Iโข know, I was (the spoiled), but โthat โitโข consists or thatโ there are others โฃspoiled out there, I do not know.”โข Family members have โconfirmed the song was dedicated toโ Rosselot,โ and also to their four daughters and another daughter from atria’s second marriage.
