Filipino Tourist Killed in Hong Kong Taxi Tragedy
Cab Ploughs into Pedestrians at Hotel Rank
A tragic incident in Hong Kong’s Tsuen Wan district has claimed the life of a tourist from the Philippines after an elderly taxi driver lost control of his vehicle.
Fatal Collision
The 35-year-old visitor was struck by a taxi that mounted the pavement at a hotel taxi rank on Yeung Uk Road. The vehicle veered onto the pedestrian area at approximately 1:52 PM. Despite immediate medical attention, the victim was pronounced dead at Princess Margaret Hospital.
Driver Injured, Investigation Underway
The 80-year-old cab driver involved in the crash sustained chest pains and abrasions to his hands and head. He was transported to Yan Chai Hospital for treatment. An insider reported the driver stated he felt dizzy, leading to the loss of control as he navigated towards the taxi rank.
Accident investigators from the New Territories South Regional Headquarters are actively probing the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. Such accidents highlight ongoing concerns about road safety; in 2023, the World Health Organization reported that road traffic injuries remain a leading cause of death globally, claiming approximately 1.1 million lives annually (WHO).
