Trump Urges Europe to Halt Immigration, Criticizes Windmills
US President’s Scottish visit includes strong remarks on continent’s future
Arriving in Scotland, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Europe regarding its approach to immigration, calling it an “invasion” that threatens the continent’s very existence.
“Get Your Act Together”
Speaking to reporters before commencing his five-day trip, which combines official engagements with personal travel, Trump urged European leaders to take decisive action. He stated, “On immigration, you better get your act together. You’re not going to have Europe anymore.”
He described the situation as a “horrible invasion”
impacting many nations.
Trump also alluded to unnamed European leaders who he believes are not receiving adequate recognition for their stances. “Some leaders have not let it happen, and they’re not getting the proper credit… I could name them to you right now, but I’m not going to embarrass the other ones. But stop, this immigration is killing Europe,”
he added.
Critique of Wind Energy
Beyond immigration, the President also voiced strong disapproval of wind energy infrastructure in Europe. “Stop the windmills. You’re ruining your countries,”
Trump declared. He lamented the visual impact, noting, “It’s so sad. You fly over and you see these windmills all over the place, ruining your beautiful fields and valleys and killing your birds.”
Trump contrasted the situation in Europe with his administration’s border policies, boasting of a period where, “Last month, we (the United States) had nobody entering our country. Nobody. Shut it down.”
He also criticized his predecessor, stating, “Biden was a total stiff, and what he allowed to happen…. but you’re allowing it to happen to your countries, and you’ve got to stop this horrible invasion that’s happening to Europe; many countries in Europe,”
he reiterated.
Trump‘s visit includes stops at his golf courses, Trump Turnberry and Trump International Golf Links. He is also slated to meet with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The trip precedes an official state visit scheduled for September 17-19, where he and First Lady Melania Trump will be hosted by King Charles.
Trump has personal ties to Scotland, as his mother, Mary Anne MacLeod, was born there before emigrating to New York. The current visit is expected to focus on reinforcing these connections alongside his political commentary.
The European Union reported that nearly 1.1 million asylum applications were lodged in 2023, a significant increase from the previous year, reflecting ongoing migration trends across the continent (Eurostat, 2024).
