‘MAGA Dentist‘ Faces Backlash After Alleging โคBias in Patientโข Care
A California dentist is facingโข criticism and potential legal consequencesโ after admittingโค she makes jokesโ aboutโฃ political affiliations with patients and once “wished” Democraticโ patients had “stayed home with their masks on” during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Manpreet Grewal, whoโ promotesโ herself as the “MAGA Dentist” at her โpractice, โขSkyline Smiles, made the comments during aโค Republican roast speech two years ago, accordingโ to her own statements.
Grewal reportedly describedโค patients reacting with alarm โคto pictures of former President Donald Trump in herโฃ office, stating, “I โขhave patients who come into my office, โคand when they seeโข the pictures, its like their buttS on fire. they jump โup and bolt โขas if Trump โhimself were entering the โroom.” She alsoโฃ allegedly jokes about โฃpolitical opinions when patients question the cost of treatment.
Identifying as a California GOP delegate โand member of local conservative groups, Grewal โขdefendedโข her remarks as free speech and jokes. “I โthink โฃAmerica is a free country, it’s free speech.no one is directly getting harmed from it.โค I’mโ making a joke. We all make jokes. I’m โขsureโ the โคDemocrats getโค in a room andโ makeโค jokes about Republicans too,” she said. She added,”Peopel shouldโฃ take lightโ of the situation, relax, chill,it’s โnot that bigโฃ of a deal to just make a joke every โคnow and then.”
The commentsโค have sparked outrage online, with some individuals reporting โGrewal to theโ California Dental Boardโ and others leaving โnegative โreviews alleging discriminatory treatment based on politicalโ views.
Civil โฃrights attorney James desimone warned that such actions could have legal ramifications. โ”It is โขindeed against the law to discriminate againstโค someoneโข based on their political beliefs. When โขyou have โa dentist โคwho says โshe’s deliberately treating you differently as โขofโฃ your political beliefs, there doesn’t โคseem โฃtoโค be โanythingโ funny about that,” he stated.
Rebecca Hindman, who runs the page Rise Up SCV, criticized Grewal’s behavior as โrepresenting both herself and her โbusiness.critics also โargue that joking about causing pain โas a dentist is unprofessionalโฃ andโ could deterโ patients from seeking necesary โฃcare.
