Aikman Questions Jerryโ Jones’ priorities: Is โคAttention Now the Cowboys’ Real Goal?
FRISCO, TXโฃ – โHall of Fame โquarterback Troy Aikman โคhas โขthrown a sharp critique at Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, suggesting the team’s prolongedโข playoff drought may have shifted the focus โคfrom winning to generating headlines. In a candid appearance on “The โขRich Eisen Show” Tuesday, Aikman questioned whether Jones prioritizes keeping the Cowboys in theโข spotlight over building a consistentโ championship contender.
“I saw Jerry talk about the fact that having the Cowboys as aโค discussion point โขis โคmeaningful to him,” Aikman explained.โฃ “And if people โaren’t talking about the Cowboys, then he’ll do things to stir it up.โ Soโข he kind of walked into that and has given the impression that that supersedes winning.”
Aikman,โ whoโ led the Cowboys to three Super Bowl victories in the 1990s, believes โthe franchise’s 30-year absence from a championship gameโ may be driving this shift. “In some ways,I’mโ sure Jerry and theโ Jonesโค family and everyone is tired of the fact that they haven’t been to a championship game, let aloneโฃ a Super Bowl,in โ30 years,” โฃhe said. โ”So, then โฃwhen you deflect that, then essentially the valuation of your franchise or the attention and the exposure, or โฃthe dramaโฆthat then becomes the scoreboard instead of winningโค and losing on the field.”

Despite his โฃcritique, Aikman was speedy toโ emphasize that he doesn’t believe Jonesโข doesn’t want to win. “I โฃthink โJerry wants to win more than anything else, and I think he’s very tired โof the fact that thisโ team, although โthey’ve won a lot ofโ regularโ season games, they’ve only won โคfour playoff games. that’s hard to stomach.”
Aikman’s comments arriveโ on the heels โฃof a blockbuster โคtrade that sent star โpass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers last week. The move, which netted the Cowboys two first-round picks and veteran defensive tackle Kenny Clark, was widely โseen as a surprising and potentially risky maneuver.
The timing of Aikman’s remarksโ adds fuel to โthe fire, raising โฃquestions about the โคlong-term vision for the Cowboys โฃand whether Jones is willing โขto sacrifice on-field success for sustained media attention. The Cowboys’ faithful will โฃundoubtedly beโค hoping that aikman’s โassessment โdoesn’t prove to be a self-fulfilling prophecy.
