Charleston, W.Va. – Construction to repair the deck of โthe Fort hill Bridge in Charleston will begin Monday evening, October 13th, according to the West Virginiaโ Department of Transportation (WVDOT). triton โฃConstruction, which was awarded a $6.67 million contract last week, will โundertake the project.
The WVDOTโ fast-tracked the repairs on the โbridge, a sectionโ of Interstate โ64, to address deteriorationโ and extend itsโฃ lifespan. Workโฃ will initiallyโ focus on full-depth concrete patching, followed by the request ofโ an impermeable membrane to โคprevent water damage. A two-inch asphaltโ overlay will then be applied to createโ a smoother driving surface and provide additional protection to the concrete deck.
Construction โคis scheduled to take โฃplace weekdays from 6 p.m. toโค 6 a.m. andโข continuously throughout weekends.โข WVDOTโค anticipates โthe project will be completed by the end of November.
According to WVDOH bridge engineers, these repairs are โintendedโ as an interimโข solution, extending the deck’sโค usability until โฃa complete redecking project can be awarded within the nextโข year.
