Austin‘s Operation Turkey delivers Thousands of thanksgiving Meals
Austin, TX – Operation turkey mobilized hundreds of volunteers today to prepare and deliverโฃ thousands of Thanksgiving meals across the city, continuing a 26-year tradition of serving โthose in need. The organization began prepping meals early this morning, with volunteersโ working to debone turkeys, prepare side dishes, and package complete Thanksgiving dinners for delivery.
For over โaโ quarter-century,โค Operation Turkeyโค has provided a vital service to the Austin community, ensuring everyone has โaccess to a warmโข meal on Thanksgiving. Thisโ year’s effort aims to reach individuals and families facing food insecurity, offering not only sustenanceโฃ but also a sense of community and connection during the holidayโ season. The organization relies entirely on volunteer support and donations to fulfill its mission.
“We bring โฃin people, they prep all the food, debone turkeys, warm up all the sides, get allโ the pies sliced up and ready to go,” said operation Turkey’s Grogan.
Once packaged, an assembly line formed, allowing volunteers to efficiently distribute meals to drivers. “We have a line of folks that are going to actually walk โขthese meals through so that everybody gets to be of service today. They’re going bring those meals out here, load them into the โcars, and then off we go to deliver those meals to those who need them,” Grogan explained.
First-time volunteerโข Flora Marking expressed her excitement about participating in the delivery process. “Yeah, absolutely. We’re โขdriving, what, 15 minutes south, andโฃ we’re going to drop them off, so that should be โฃfun,” she told โคFOX 7 Austin.
Grogan emphasized the core purpose ofโค the event. “Today, for me, is about being of service to others,” he said. โข”As โyou can see,it takes a village and there’s a lot of people that putโ their thumbprint on this.” He shared a especially rewarding experience, โขnoting, “On the drive home โขyou see someone sitting on the sidewalk eating one of those meals, that makes it all worthwhile.”
