Nghe An Province, Vietnam – Colonel Nguyen Hong Loi, Political Commissar of the Nghe An Province Military Command, was awarded the 3rd class National Defense Medal during a ceremony on March 3, 2026, recognizing his contributions to military training, combat readiness, and national defense. The award was presented by Hwang Nguyi Ahieu, Permanent Secretary of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Nghe An Provincial People’s Council, acting on behalf of the President of Vietnam.

The recognition follows a year of intensive training exercises for military units within Nghe An Province, described by officials as achieving “good and robust results” across multiple areas. Emphasis was placed on thorough recent recruit training, with all trainees reportedly achieving “excellent or top grades” in a three-hour live-fire test, conducted with a focus on safety. Platoon-level training also saw all personnel successfully complete courses and demonstrate high performance.

Beyond conventional military training, efforts were made to enhance the skills of militia and reserve forces, as well as to provide comprehensive defense and security knowledge training to all personnel. The Nghe An Province Military Command also showcased martial arts and qigong demonstrations by its officers and border guards, highlighting a commitment to both physical and mental preparedness.

The Ministry of Defense announced the designation of the Nghe An Province Military Command as an “Exemplary and Outstanding Comprehensive Strong Force” at the event. This commendation underscores the province’s commitment to strengthening its military capabilities and contributing to national security.

Looking ahead, Nghe An Province military units plan to strictly implement resolutions and instructions aimed at further improving training quality. This includes a focus on enhancing performance in competitions and sports events, participating in district-level local defense training, and advising provincial authorities on the organization of provincial-level civil defense exercises. Units will also conduct combat training within designated defense areas, prioritizing high results and absolute safety.

Officials emphasized the importance of thorough combat readiness training, including the development and practice of plans to protect key institutions and units. A proactive approach to situational assessment was also highlighted, with a directive to avoid passive responses and to anticipate potential challenges. The province intends to organize training and exercises to ensure a comprehensive understanding of combat readiness and the ability to respond effectively to any situation.
