Thousands of people have fled the approaching Hurricane Milton.

A hurricane is about to hit the Florida peninsula Wednesday night local time. The fiercest hurricane in years has caused many to flee. With airports out of the game, practically the only way to escape the peninsula is by car to the north.

The fleeing crowds of people and their cars have created huge queues on the highways. The video from the Reuters news agency shows how the line of cars in the north direction was already kilometers long on Wednesday afternoon. Only a handful of cars travel in the other direction.

Those fleeing by car are worried about the low fuel situation. A Finn interviewed by Iltalehti Tiia Cartwrightin according to many places, the gas is out.

The authorities have organized several tanker trucks in the area so that fuel can be distributed to everyone leaving the area.

Despite the warnings of the authorities and the historically strong storm, many have still remained in the area. The reason may simply be that they have nowhere to go.
