DAR Marker Rededication in Valley Cityโค Signals Renewed Focus on Northโฃ Dakotaโฃ History, Communityโ Engagement
Valley โคCity, โฃNorth Dakota โ- October 26, 2023 – The โNorth Dakota โState Society โขDaughters of the American Revolution (DAR) recently completedโ a project too restore a historic marker honoringโ Augusta โคFreeman Young, a pivotal figure in โthe association’s state founding, and โคthe event underscores a broader commitment to preserving local history and expanding community outreach. Theโข rededication,held in Valley City,comes as the DAR seeks to attract new members and amplify its workโ in genealogy,education,and โpatriotic โendeavors acrossโ the state.
The โoriginal marker, dedicated in 1929, had been damaged-reportedly by a lawnmower-and was โin need of replacement.โ The โฃrestoration effort, spearheadedโค by DAR members, not only preserves the โฃmemory of Young, who organized the first DAR โคchapter in North Dakota, but also symbolizes the organization’s โฃenduring presence and โforward โฃmomentum. โ”she really could get it started,” stated DAR member Sidler, emphasizingโฃ Young’s instrumental role in โขestablishing a thriving DAR presence in North Dakota.
Augusta Freeman Young founded the DAR chapter in Valley Cityโ on November 11, โ1905, and served as its first regent. Her dedication laidโข the groundwork for the organization’s expansion throughout the โคstate, now encompassing numerous chapters and thousands โof members. Theโ DAR’s mission centers onโฃ historic preservation, patriotism, and education, with initiatives ranging from โsupporting veterans to providing scholarships and promoting responsible citizenship.
The rededication โceremony served as aโค reminder of the importance of safeguarding historical landmarks and recognizing the contributions of pioneering women like โYoung.
