Tory Lanezโ Fined $20,000 for Refusing to Cooperate in Deposition
Tory Lanez, legally Daystar Peterson, hasโฃ been fined $20,000โข for obstructing the deposition โฃprocess in Megan Thee Stallion’s defamation and cyberstalking lawsuit against Milagro Cooper, also known as YouTube personality milagro Gramz. โคU.S. magistrateโ Judge โฃLisette M. Reid found Peterson in contempt of court after he repeatedly refused to answer questions during a jailhouseโ deposition onโ friday. His attorney, Crystal Morgan, was alsoโ sanctioned.
The โขruling came as jury selection began in the case against Cooper, where Megan Thee Stallionโข alleges Cooper spread โค”vicious and hateful rumors” while acting as a “paid surrogate” for Peterson.
According to Judge โReid, Peterson was openly defiant โฃthroughout the deposition, initially questioning the consequences of refusing to โฃanswer. After being warned of potential fines, Peterson reportedly stated he was willing to pay, asserting, “I’m โa millionaire.โ Iโฃ don’t care.” The judge also noted an instance where Peterson “stormed out of theโ room” and accused Megan’s attorneyโ of dishonesty, โขdemanding he “calm down.”
Peterson refusedโ toโค address basic questions regarding his relationship with Cooper, specifically declining to explain howโ they met or whether they had communicated via direct messages, texts, or Instagram. Judge Reid hasโฃ recommended informing the jury that Peterson was properly โquestioned โฃand deliberately chose not to respond.
This is not the first instance โฃof Peterson beingโ penalized forโ uncooperative deposition behavior. In April,โ he was ordered to coverโ Megan โขThee Stallion’s legal fees after being described as combative and evasive during a previous deposition -โค his first under oath as โbeing accused of shooting Megan Thee Stallion with a semi-automatic firearm โin Los Angeles.Peterson is currentlyโ serving a ten-year sentence for that assault.
