BOSTON – Severe thunderstorms are forecast to impact Massachusetts on Saturday, bringing teh potential for damaging winds, large hail, andโ even tornadoes. โStormTeam 5 has โdeclared Saturday an Alert Day asโข storms are โขexpected to develop inโ western Massachusetts afterโ 1 p.m. andโ spread eastward through the evening.
The primary threat from these storms will be damaging wind gusts and large hail. While less likely, the possibility of โฃtornadoes andโฃ localizedโข flooding alsoโ exists. The highest risk for severe weather is northwest โขof Boston, within a timeframe of 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Initially, storms will be scattered throughout โthe afternoon, primarily in central and western parts of the state.A line of storms โis anticipated to move into eastern Massachusetts late Saturday afternoon and early evening, though it is expected to weaken as it progresses. Steadyโ rain may follow after 8 p.m.,diminishingโค by midnight.
Sunday will be cooler and less humid with widespreadโ showers. Dampโ conditions will persist throughout the day. Lingering showers are possible early Monday morning for Cape โฃCod and theโข Islands.
