East Java Woman Turnsโ Cassava Snacks intoโ Thriving Homeโ Business, Earning Millions Daily
Probolinggo, East Java – A former migrant worker in East Java has found success โbuilding a home-based businessโข specializing in conventional cassava snacks,โ achieving a daily โturnover averaging Rp 1 million (approximately $65 USD). Fatimah, a single parent, launched “Qtello Ayu” in late 2017 after deciding thatโข working abroad was insufficient to meet her family’s needs.
“There, I really think about this, while there are โmore and more needs. I used to be a โsingle parent supporting children, so I have the intention to start โขa business at home,” Fatimah told detikcom on Sunday, Septemberโ 28,โข 2025.
Starting with โฃRp 700,000 (approximately $45 USD) in savings, Fatimahโ initially offered three cassava-based snacks:โ Ongol-ongol, โGetuk, and Kelepon. The business has since expanded to nineโฃ colorful variants, โincluding bird โฃnests, grilled getuk, layer trays, bananaโค trays, Singju Krispi, and Cendolโ Ayu.
Fatimah emphasizes innovative packaging and marketingโค through WhatsApp, alumni groups, and social media, relyingโ heavily on word-of-mouth promotion. qtello Ayu now produces up to 400 boxes daily and sees fluctuating daily revenues, sometimes exceedingโ Rp 2-3 million (approximately $130-$195 โUSD).
To โmanage growing demand, Fatimah employs two daily workersโฃ alongside family members, maintaining production and quality control from her home. the business’s success has allowed her to pay offโข debts, including the โขpurchase of aโฃ vehicle forโ operations,โค and has even inspired one ofโ her children to open a Qtello Ayu branch in bandung.
“Hopefully itโฃ can be open in cities because of โmany requests in these cities. For those who want business,โข any business isโข the same, with a process that isโฃ not easy. When theโข spirit decreases, remember โagain โคthe purpose of the business,” Fatimah advised aspiring entrepreneurs.
