Iran Attacks US Data Centers: Cloud & AI Infrastructure Targeted

by Priya Shah – Business Editor March 3, 2026
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

DUBAI, UAE – A direct military strike targeting critical digital infrastructure has disrupted operations for Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the Middle East, escalating tensions following the reported death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and subsequent retaliatory actions. Iran claimed responsibility for drone attacks that damaged AWS data centers in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, marking the first known instance of a major cloud provider’s facilities being directly targeted in armed conflict.

AWS confirmed that two facilities in the UAE sustained direct hits, while a third in Bahrain was impacted by drone activity in the surrounding area. “These attacks caused structural damage, disrupted power supply to our infrastructure, and in some cases required fire suppression activities resulting in additional water damage,” the company stated in a public update. AWS warned that recovery efforts will be protracted due to the extent of the physical damage.

The disruptions affected approximately a dozen core AWS cloud services, forcing customers – including financial institutions – to shift operations to alternative regions. Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank reported temporary outages of its platforms and mobile applications due to the regional IT disruptions, though did not directly attribute the issues to the AWS incident.

The attacks represent a significant shift in the nature of conflict in the region. Previously, Iran and its proxies have focused on targeting oil infrastructure, including refineries, pipelines, and oil fields. The targeting of data centers and cloud infrastructure signals a broadening of strategic objectives to include the digital realm. The Center for Strategic and International Studies has previously warned that data centers and their supporting energy infrastructure are potential strategic targets in modern conflicts.

The UAE has been actively positioning itself as a regional hub for artificial intelligence, attracting substantial investment from US technology companies. Microsoft, for example, has committed $15.2 billion in investment through 2029 to bolster data center capacity in the country, utilizing chips from Nvidia. This makes the attacks on AWS infrastructure particularly sensitive, potentially undermining confidence in the region’s ability to support advanced technologies.

According to a report from Jones Lang LaSalle Inc., Saudi Arabia is poised to turn into the center of data center growth in the Middle East over the next three years, with Riyadh expected to lead the market. This growth is aligned with Saudi Arabia’s ambitions to become a hub for artificial intelligence and to digitize its economy. Riyadh’s data center capacity is projected to grow at a compound annual rate of 37% through 2027, nearly double the rate expected in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

The attacks on AWS infrastructure approach amid a broader surge in investment in data center capacity in the Middle East. A recent report indicated that regional capacity is expected to triple from 1 gigawatt in 2025 to 3.3 gigawatts by 2030, fueled by sovereign wealth funds and geopolitical ambitions. The UAE and Saudi Arabia are leveraging their energy resources to provide low-cost electricity – ranging from $0.05 to $0.06 per kilowatt-hour – to power these facilities, significantly lower than the $0.09 to $0.15 average in the United States.

As of Tuesday, March 3, 2026, AWS has not provided a timeline for full restoration of services. The company’s update indicated ongoing assessments of the damage and a commitment to working with local authorities to secure the facilities. No statement has been issued by Iranian officials beyond the initial claim of responsibility.

US-Iran Conflict: Rising Tensions and Potential War

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor February 25, 2026
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald Trump, in his State of the Union address Tuesday, accused Iran of pursuing advanced missile technology capable of reaching the American mainland, a claim immediately disputed by Tehran. The escalating rhetoric comes as indirect negotiations between the two nations are set to resume Thursday in Geneva, mediated by Oman, with the aim of de-escalating tensions over Iran’s nuclear program.

Trump asserted that Iran is working to rebuild its nuclear program, despite what he claimed were successful U.S. Strikes last year that “obliterated” Iranian nuclear facilities. “We wiped it out and they seek to start all over again. And they’re at this moment again pursuing their sinister ambitions,” Trump stated during his address to a joint session of Congress. He added that his preference is to resolve the issue through diplomacy, but warned he would not allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, leading Tehran’s negotiating delegation, departed for Geneva on Wednesday, according to state media. However, Iranian officials have vehemently denied Trump’s allegations regarding both the pursuit of nuclear weapons and the development of long-range missiles. “Whatever accusations they make regarding Iran’s nuclear program, ballistic missiles, and the number of casualties during the January unrest are merely a repetition of ‘considerable lies’,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei, speaking on Wednesday without directly naming Trump.

The claim of Iran developing missiles capable of reaching the U.S. Has been met with skepticism. Geographical realities suggest such a capability is currently beyond Iran’s reach, with over 10,000 kilometers separating Iran from the west coast of the United States. According to a report from the U.S. Congressional Research Service, Iran’s current missile arsenal is limited to short- and intermediate-range systems with a maximum range of 3,000 kilometers.

Despite the denial from Tehran, Trump reiterated his concerns, stating, “They have been developing missiles that can threaten Europe and our bases abroad, and they are working to build missiles that will soon be able to reach the United States.”

The U.S. Has been increasing its military presence in the Middle East in recent weeks, deploying both the USS Abraham Lincoln and the USS Gerald R. Ford, the world’s largest aircraft carrier, to the region. The Gerald R. Ford arrived at the U.S. Naval base in Souda Bay, Greece, earlier this week.

Simultaneously, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commenced military exercises along its southern coast in the Persian Gulf, reportedly involving drones, naval vessels, amphibious vehicles, and various missile systems. IRGC commander Mohammad Karami stated the exercises were conducted “based on existing threats,” without elaborating further.

Araghchi, in a recent social media post, reaffirmed Iran’s position, stating, “Our fundamental belief is very clear: Iran, under any circumstances, will never develop a nuclear weapon.” The upcoming negotiations in Geneva represent a critical juncture in efforts to prevent further escalation between Washington and Tehran.

Netanyahu Pushes “Hexagon Alliance” with India, Greece & Cyprus | CNBC Indonesia

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor February 24, 2026
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu unveiled plans for a “hexagon of alliances” on Sunday, naming India as a key partner in a regional bloc intended to counter what he described as “radical axes” in the Middle East, just days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Israel.

Netanyahu outlined the proposed alliance as a framework to address threats posed by both Shia and Sunni extremist groups, identifying Greece and Cyprus as additional core members. He indicated the potential inclusion of other Arab, African, and Asian states, though specific nations were not named, according to statements released by the Israeli foreign office on February 22.

The initiative coincides with heightened tensions in the region, including escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, and a recently formed Saudi Arabia-Pakistan pact, described as a NATO-like alliance, with Turkey reportedly seeking to join. Netanyahu framed the “hexagon” as a strategic response to these developments.

Prime Minister Modi is expected to arrive in Israel on February 25 for a two-day state visit, his second to the country and the first in nearly nine years. Discussions between the two leaders are anticipated to focus on regional and global issues of mutual interest, as well as cooperation in high-tech sectors like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, cybersecurity, and semiconductors, according to India’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

While Netanyahu has publicly positioned India as a cornerstone of the alliance, analysts suggest Latest Delhi is likely to maintain a pragmatic approach. India traditionally adheres to a non-aligned foreign policy and may be hesitant to formally commit to an alliance based on ideological lines, despite its growing strategic partnership with Israel.

Israel has been strengthening ties with Greece and Cyprus in recent years, particularly in the areas of energy and defense. In 2025, Greece approved the purchase of 36 PULS rocket artillery systems from Israel for approximately $760 million, and discussions are underway regarding a further defense package valued at $3.5 billion. However, both Greece and Cyprus are members of the International Criminal Court (ICC), which has issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu related to alleged war crimes in Gaza, potentially creating legal and political obstacles to deeper cooperation.

Some observers question the feasibility of the “hexagon” as a formal alliance, suggesting it may be more of a strategic messaging effort. Andreas Krieg, a professor of security studies at King’s College London, characterized the concept as a way to “package existing relationships and partnerships to look like a new strategic bloc” rather than a NATO-like structure.

Analysts also point to domestic political pressures facing Netanyahu, including ongoing judicial reform controversies and corruption investigations, as potential motivations for the alliance proposal. The initiative could be seen as an attempt to demonstrate that Israel is not diplomatically isolated ahead of potential elections, according to Israeli political analyst Ori Goldberg, who noted that Israel’s deteriorating international image due to the ongoing conflict makes securing concrete support for such an alliance challenging.

As of Tuesday, February 24, no government beyond Israel has publicly endorsed the “hexagon” alliance or its framing of regional dynamics. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to address the Knesset during his visit, and the outcome of discussions between the two leaders regarding the proposed alliance remains to be seen.

TVS Motor Indonesia Reaches 1 Million Unit Production Milestone | Exports Surge

by Priya Shah – Business Editor February 21, 2026
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Karawang, Indonesia – TVS Motor Company Indonesia has reached a significant milestone, producing its one millionth vehicle at its manufacturing facility in Karawang, West Java. The achievement, announced on Thursday, February 19, 2026, marks a substantial contribution to Indonesia’s automotive industry and expands the Indian manufacturer’s global production footprint.

The one million units produced encompass both two-wheeled and three-wheeled vehicles, catering to both the domestic Indonesian market and export destinations across Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa, according to a statement from the Directorate General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronics (ILMATE).

“PT TVS Motor Company Indonesia has demonstrated a strong commitment to strengthening the national automotive industry through continuous investment, increased exports, and compliance with industry regulations,” stated Setia Diarta, Director General of ILMATE. The company began operations in Indonesia in 2007, establishing a fully integrated manufacturing facility in Karawang.

Since commencing commercial production, TVS Motor Company Indonesia has invested USD 250 million (approximately Rp 4.12 trillion) in its Indonesian operations. This investment has not only created hundreds of direct jobs but has as well generated economic benefits for an estimated 8,000 indirect workers through its network of distributors, suppliers, contractors, and service providers.

The Karawang plant now serves as a key global production base for TVS Motor Company, alongside its facilities in India and the United Kingdom. Approximately 95% of the vehicles produced at the Indonesian facility are two-wheelers, with the remaining 5% being three-wheelers, according to a regulatory filing.

TVS Motor Company’s success in Indonesia is also linked to its adherence to local content requirements. The company has met the necessary Tingkat Komponen Dalam Negeri (TKDN) standards, enabling its products to participate in government procurement programs at both the national and regional levels. For example, TVS recently supplied 700 three-wheeled motorcycles for a cooperative development program, Percepatan Pembangunan Fisik Gerai, Pergudangan dan Perlengkapan Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih, through a partnership with PT Agrinas.

The Indonesian two-wheeled vehicle market remains robust, with sales exceeding 6.4 million units in 2025, representing a 1.3% increase compared to 2024. Exports also contributed significantly, reaching approximately 540,000 completely built-up (CBU) units with a total export value of Rp 10.5 trillion, according to ILMATE data.

TVS Motor Company currently operates 49 dealerships across Indonesia, strategically located in Java, Bali, Lombok, Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi. The company reported a 49% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit for the December quarter, reaching ₹841 crore (approximately USD 9.5 million) compared to ₹566 crore in the same period the previous year.
