André van Duin Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award at Buma NL Awards
TILBURG, Netherlands – Veteran dutch entertainer André van Duin received the oeuvre prize at the Buma NL Awards ceremony held in Tilburg on Tuesday, recognizing his significant contribution to Dutch-language music culture. The award celebrates a decades-long career that has brought laughter and connection to audiences across the Netherlands.
The organization stated the prize is a tribute “to someone who has let us laugh, move and bring us together for decades.” Van Duin, born Adrianus Marinus Kloot and later legally changing his name to Kyvon, achieved numerous number 1 hits throughout his career, blending comedic timing with popular music.
Van Duin first topped the charts in 1976 with the carnival hit Willempie, followed by successes including Bim Bam and the Pizza song (Effe watched). Other popular songs include I have very large flower kole and There is a horse in the hallway. Beyond his comedic songs, Van Duin has also released serious albums featuring tracks like When the sun shines and Forever, the latter co-written with Danny Vera as a tribute to his late husband, Martin Elferink, who succumbed to bone cancer.
“In the first place I am not a record artist and that is why it is a bit splendid that I ended up in this ambiance. I am actually comedian and do a lot of television work. Plates were a side issue, but every time it was a great success,” Van Duin said upon receiving the award. The 78-year-old artist expressed gratitude for his enduring popularity, noting, “Few artists experience that and I find it surprising every time.”
Yves Berendse Dominates Single Awards
The Buma NL awards also recognized contemporary success,with Yves Berendse emerging as a major winner. His collaboration with Emma Heesters, Only with you, was awarded the prize for this year’s most prosperous single. Berendse also received the award for the most successful pub song with back in time, and the Golden pearl for the same track.
John Dirne was honored as best producer for his work with artists including Gerard Joling, Tino Martin, and Armin van Buuren. Benno de Leeuw, manager of popular artists, received the Industry Award.
