Müller to Face messi in MLS Championship Final
Thomas Müller’s short stint in Major League Soccer is set for a landmark moment: the FC Bayern Munich icon will compete in the MLS championship final with the Vancouver Whitecaps against Lionel Messi and Inter Miami. Vancouver secured their place after defeating San Diego FC 3-1 (3-0) in San Diego, winning the Western Conference playoffs. Inter Miami advanced from the Eastern Conference with a 5-1 victory over New York City FC.
Due to a superior regular season record, Inter Miami will host the final on Sunday night (3:00 a.m. CET). This marks the first championship final appearance for both teams.
the upcoming match will be Müller and Messi’s first encounter as the champions League round of 16 between FC Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain prior to Messi’s move to the USA, and their first final meeting since Germany’s 2014 World Cup victory. Messi has already secured the Leagues Cup (2023) and the Supporters’ Shield (2024) with Inter Miami, but is yet to win the MLS championship. Müller has already claimed the Canadian championship with Vancouver.
Vancouver quickly established a 2-0 lead in san Diego, with White scoring in the 8th minute, followed by an own goal from San Diego goalkeeper Pablo sisniega off a rebound from Ali Ahmed three minutes later. White added another goal before halftime, making it 3-0 (45+2). San Diego scored a deflected goal to make it 3-1 just before Müller was substituted in the 61st minute, and finished the game with a man down after Sisniega received a red card for a challenge outside the penalty area in the 79th minute.
Inter Miami faced a tougher challenge against New York, but were propelled by a hat-trick from Tadeo Allende, who scored in the 14th, 38th, and 89th minutes. Messi assisted on the goal that made it 3-1, effectively sealing the victory.
