Big ships of the world can also come and go in Vizhinjat – Minister
When Minister Ahmed Devarkov visited the berth at Vizhinjam International Port where the construction work has reached its final stage.
Thiruvananthapuram: The ship carrying cranes for the construction of Vizhinjam port will arrive on Thursday. The ship anchored in the open sea at Vizhinjam is brought closer to the berth with the help of tugs led by around 30 technicians. A 300 meter berth has been completed to accommodate the 240 meter long ship.
A berth depth of 12 meters is required to accommodate Henhua 15 with a crane. At present the part adjacent to the berth has a depth of 18 m.
Buoys will be used to guide the ship arriving by sea in the bay area to reach the port area. Then four tugs will be used to pull the ship to the berth. The ship can be fully berthed within three hours.
Fenders and bollards are installed to keep the ship steady so that the berth is not damaged when the ship is brought in with the help of tugs. Cranes can be lowered only when the ship’s dock and berth are level.
Mooring (the work of bringing the ship to berth from deep sea) is done by Waterline Shipping and Logistics Private Limited.
The mooring work is being done under the leadership of Captain Tushar of Adani Ports. About 700 policemen have been deployed in the port construction area for the security of the ship. The official reception of the ship will take place on Sunday.
15th reception for ship arriving with cranes
Vizhinjam: Minister Ahmed Dewar Kovil said that even the world’s largest container ships can come and go at Vizhinjam port. He said that Vizhinjam port will be operational by May 2024. The minister was talking to the media persons when he came to Vizhinjam to assess the activities to receive the ship with cranes for the construction of the port.
On the 15th, at 4 pm, the government will welcome the first ship approaching the harbor with cranes. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Union Ports Minister Sarbanand Sonowal will attend the function. Tugs at sea will receive the ship with a water salute.
Vizhinjam Port will become a world attraction. It has a natural depth of 20 meters for berthing of large ships. Dredging costing billions of rupees will not be required for that.
In Kerala, which we refer to as God’s own land, there is a sea where God’s blessings have flowed. Vizhinjath also has the distinction of getting land at a distance of 10 nautical miles from international ships. He also said that the arrival of foreign cruise ships will also make a big difference in the tourism sector of the state. The resettlement of those who had given land for the port was ensured. Technical training centers will be started under the leadership of ASAP for the local residents who have lost their jobs.
He said that 5000 people will get employment in the first phase. Whistle MD Dr. Adila Abdullah, CEO, Adani Ports Company Rajesh Jha, Head of Corporate Affairs Sushil Nair, CSR Medhavi Dr. Anil Balakrishnan and others are also concerned.
