Mayor Vitaly Klitschko in Kyiv comes in an interview with sharp criticism of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The interview in the Swiss newspaper 20 minutes gets a lot of attention on Sunday in both Ukraine and Russia, writes the news agency DPA.

– People ask why we were not better prepared for this war, why Zelenskyy ultimately denied that this would happen, says Klitschko.

He supports Ukraine’s military commander-in-chief, Valeryj Zaluzhnyj, who was criticized a month ago for claiming that the war had stalled.

– He told the truth. Sometimes people don’t want to hear the truth. But ultimately, Zaluzhnyj is responsible.

– Naturally, we can lie euphorically to our people and our partners, but you can’t do that forever, says Klitschko in the interview.

The Ukrainian army says it has managed to push Russian soldiers 3-8 kilometers away from the Dnieper river on the front line in the southeast of the country.

It is the first time in a long time that progress has been reported after months of deadlocked fronts in connection with the Ukrainian counter-offensive.

– Preliminary information varies from 3 to 8 kilometers depending on the geography and landscape on the left bank of the river, says defense spokesperson Natalia Gumenjuk to Ukrainian television on Sunday.

Here you can read more about the war in Ukraine!

She does not state whether Ukrainian soldiers have taken control of the areas, or whether the Russians have only withdrawn.

Tens of thousands of opponents

She estimates that tens of thousands of Russian soldiers are on the other side of the river.

– Enemies continue to fire artillery from the right bank of the river. We have a lot of work left, she says.

The Dnieper River, which runs from north to south in the country, has become one of the most important front lines in the war.

Last year, Ukrainian forces managed to push Russian forces back across the river in Kherson county in the south, but the Russians have continued to attack Ukrainian towns and villages from the east side of the river.

Little progress

For over a year, Russian and Ukrainian soldiers have held positions on opposite sides of the river. Ukrainian forces have made a number of attempts to cross the river.

The Ukrainian counter-offensive was launched in June last year, but for the Ukrainians it has led to disappointingly little progress in the attempt to recapture Russian-occupied areas.

Ukraine has only recaptured a small number of villages in the south and east. The last time Ukraine claimed a victory in the offensive was when Ukrainian forces recaptured the village of Robotyne in Zaporizhzhya County in August.

Russia will send Ukrainian prisoners of war to the front in Ukraine to fight on the Russian side, writes the state news agency Ria.

The news agency claims the soldiers swear allegiance to Russia and have volunteered to fight on Moscow’s side in the war. It is supposed to be a separate battalion of Ukrainian prisoners of war to be deployed at the front.

The claims have not been independently verified. If it is true that Russia will use Ukrainian prisoners of war as soldiers, it is a violation of the Geneva Conventions on the treatment of prisoners of war.

– Russian authorities claim they have recruited them on a voluntary basis, but it is difficult to imagine a scenario where a prisoner of war’s decision can be made completely voluntarily, says Yulia Gorbunova at Human Rights Watch.

Earlier this year, it was claimed in the Russian media that 70 Ukrainian prisoners of war had enlisted as soldiers for Russia.

Nov. 3 2023 11:01 – Updated Nov 3 2023 11:02

On the night of Friday, Ukraine was hit by the biggest drone attack in several weeks. The country’s second largest city Kharkiv is among the places that were attacked.

Russian drones hit civilian targets and infrastructure in several Ukrainian cities, according to local authorities.

According to the Kharkiv region’s governor, Oleh Synjehubov, the attacks were aimed at civilian infrastructure in the city, which is located in northeastern Ukraine. Synjehubov states that eight people, including two children, were injured in the attacks.

The attacks also sparked a fire in the city, which is Ukraine’s second largest. Kharkiv’s mayor Ihor Terekhov later stated that firefighters brought the fire under control.

Here you can read everything about the war in Ukraine.

Zelenskyj expects more attacks

According to Ukraine’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, eight private homes, a three-storey building, several cars and a car workshop were hit in the attacks against Kharkiv.

The Ukrainian air force says it shot down 24 out of 40 Russian drones used in the attacks on the night of Friday. In addition to Kharkiv, the drone attacks targeted Odesa and Kherson regions in the south, as well as Lviv in the west. The latter is located on the border with Poland.

– We realize that Russian terrorists will try to do more damage now that winter is approaching. We will respond to the enemy’s attack, says Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a statement.

Affected infrastructure

Governor Maksym Kozytskyj of the Lviv region says parts of their infrastructure were hit five times overnight, without giving further details of the damage.

No one will be killed in the attacks against the region.

Also Governor Oleh Kiper of the Odessa region says that their infrastructure was hit in the attacks.

written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

– Our forces are improving the position in almost the entire area, a fairly large area, Putin says in a video on social media.

– This applies to areas near Kupjansk, Zaporizhzhya and Avdijivka, he says.

The areas are located in eastern Ukraine. In particular, there have been fierce battles in Avdijivka in recent days as a result of a Russian offensive.

– They have sent significant forces and equipment here. Avdijivka is completely in flames. They shoot with everything they have. The hospital is burning, so are government buildings and volunteer centers, said Vitalij Barabasj, the head of the city administration on Saturday.

– On instructions from the president, I visited a shooting range near the contact line in Donetsk, says Medvedev, who has previously been president and prime minister of Russia.

The news agency Sputnik, which in the West is often perceived as a propaganda channel for the Russian authorities, has published a number of photos which allegedly show Medvedev together with soldiers in Ukraine.

– The soldiers show excellent fighting qualities such as will, speed and an attitude aimed at victory, says Medvedev, who currently serves as deputy chairman of the Kremlin’s Security Council.

He further claims that over 325,000 soldiers have been recruited into the Russian armed forces since the start of the year, a higher number than the 280,000 he mentioned at the beginning of September.

Medvedev has been vocal about his support for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and often condemns the West in provocative posts on social media.
