Liverpool’s Arne Slot Confirms Chiesa‘s Disappointment Over Champions League Exclusion
Jakarta – Liverpool manager Arne Slot has revealed that Federico Chiesa expressed his unhappiness upon learning he was not included in the club’s Champions League squad for the group stage. Despite the setback, Slot emphasized that the Italian winger will have opportunities to contribute in Premier League matches and domestic cup competitions.
Chiesa had begun to feel secure in his position at Anfield after limited playing time last season, becoming a trusted substitute and even scoring one goal in three Premier League appearances this season. He initially believed he would remain with the club despite being left off the pre-season tour, but the official Champions League squad declaration dashed those hopes. Liverpool opted to register 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha, who is ineligible for academy registration having been with the club for less than two years.
“Of course it’s arduous for a manager, it’s also difficult for him,” Slot saeid, as quoted by liverpool Echo and Italian Football. “Of course he is not happy with the decision, but he understands the argument [behind the decision]. He gave the answer you want to hear from a player, and he will be present in helping in the league of other trophies.”
Slot further noted Chiesa’s dedication, stating, ”He has worked very hard lately to prepare for the upcoming matches, which are even more critically important than what a player says to you.”
Liverpool currently leads the Premier League table with nine points from three games and is scheduled to face Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at 8:00 PM WIB.
