morocco’s tourismโ sector experienced significant growth โin 2024, โขwith tourism GDP increasing by 38.4% compared to 2019, accordingโ to newly released data from the Tourism Satellite โaccount (CST) for 2024, based on 2014โ figures. The sector’s contribution to the national GDP rose from โค6.8% toโ 7.3%.
Theโค CST data reveals aโค substantial rise in domestic tourism consumption, reaching 201.7 billion dirhamsโค in 2024 – a 42.6% increase fromโฃ the โ141.4โค billion โฃdirhams recordedโค inโ 2019.โค This growth is driven โฃby both inbound andโข domestic tourism, reflectingโ a strong recoveryโ and expansion of theโ industry.
Inbound โฃtourism consumption โsaw a particularly strong surge, increasing by 46.8% from 93.2 billion dirhams โin 2019 โto 136.9 โbillion dirhams โin 2024. consumption related to โinternal and outbound tourism also grew,rising by 34.6% fromโ 48.2 billion dirhams to 64.8 billion dirhams over the same โperiod.
Consequently, inboundโฃ tourism’s share of โtotal domestic consumptionโ increasedโ toโฃ 67.9% in 2024, up from โ65.9% โin โข2019. โConversely, the shareโ of internal andโค outbound โtourism โdecreasedโฃ slightly,โ from 34.1% โคin 2019 to 32.1% in 2024.
The tourism sector’s โoverall production โvalue reached 181.9 billion dirhams in 2024,a 42.3% increase compared to 127.8 billion dirhams in 2019. โAdded value within the sector grew by 37%, reaching 96.4 billion dirhams โคin 2024, up from 70.4 billionโ dirhams in โฃ2019.
Accounting for aโ 46% increase in โคtaxes net of subsidies on tourism products, tourism GDP reached 116.2 billion dirhams in 2024, a โ38.4%โ increase from 83.9โข billion dirhams in 2019. This positiveโฃ trend underscores the increasing importance of tourism to the Moroccan economy.
