WASHINGTON – Senatorโข Ron โJohnson (R-Wisconsin) announced โคMonday he will donate his paychecks during the ongoing government โคshutdown to Theโ Joseph Project, a faith-based job preparation initiative he โขhelped establish โin 2015.
Johnson’s pledge โcomes as theโฃ government shutdown entered its sixth day, leaving many โคfederal workers furloughed or working โคwithout pay. While most federal employees are sent home during a shutdown, essential workers and active-dutyโ service members are still required to โฃwork but โwill not receive โฃa paycheck until the shutdown ends. Members โขof Congress are constitutionally protected and โคcontinue โขto receiveโ pay during such closures.
Johnson โis the latest wisconsin representative to refuse their salary โคduring the shutdown.Last week, Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin) and โฃRepresentatives Tony Wied (R-8th District) and Glenn โฃGrothman (R-6th District) also โคrequested their pay โขbe withheld.
The Joseph project provides a week-long โjob preparation training program connecting participants withโค Wisconsinโ employers.โ
“every โฃday the shutdown continues, the check gets a little bigger – compliments of Chuck โSchumer,” Johnson stated.
