British Prime minister Keir starmer has emphasized the urgency of action, stating, “With a solution that is now threatened, this is the time to act.” He also outlined specific demands for the Palestinian militant group Hamas, concerning the Israeli citizens taken hostage during the October 7, 2023 attacks.
Starmer’s demands include the immediate release of all hostages, the signing of a ceasefire agreement, the disarmament of weapons, and an acceptance that Hamas will not hold a role in the future governance of Gaza.
Western Nations Advocate for Palestinian State Recognition
france, alongside 14 other western nations, has issued a collective appeal for global recognition of a palestinian state. This joint statement was released on Tuesday evening (local time) in New York, following a conference aimed at revitalizing the two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The conference was co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia.
French Foreign minister Jean-Noel Barrot announced on X, as reported by AFP, “In New York, along with 14 other countries, France issued a collective call: We declare our desire to recognize the Palestinian state and invite those who have not done so to join us.”
The joint statement, signed by 15 countries including Spain, Norway, and Finland, reaffirmed their “firm commitment to the vision of the two-state solution.” Notably, nine of the signatory nations, which have not yet recognized a palestinian state, indicated a “positive willingness or consideration from their country” to do so, with Australia, Canada, and New zealand among them.
Additionally, a video report suggests that England plans to recognize Palestine in September.
