NEW YORK — It will be another weekend of wet weather for the tri-state area, particularly in the first half, as flood watches have been issued for counties surrounding New York City.

The rain will begin to pick up late morning and early afternoon Saturday, and won’t stop for hours. Heavy rain is expected from the afternoon and will continue overnight.

Flash Flood Watches have been issued for nearly all of New Jersey, along with Rockland County in New York, from 1 p.m. Saturday to 8 p.m. Sunday. New York City and other Hudson Valley counties are also expected to receive similar warnings when the storms arrive.

Despite the warnings issued, flash flooding itself is not likely, but flooding of rivers from excessive runoff is very possible, thanks to up to 2 inches of rain on already saturated terrain. River flooding is likely to last until Sunday.

Ponds and small urban or street flooding will likely be the “usual suspect” areas during times of heavy rain. So anywhere that floods frequently during storms (looking at Hoboken, and certain parts of Queens) could experience some problems. This flooding will occur Saturday afternoon and evening and should clear overnight.

If there’s any good news, it’s that it will be too hot for snow to form. High temperatures each day will be around 50 degrees, eliminating any chance of a late snowstorm (at least for now).

Next week starts with flurries and cold before warming up just before midweek. Some of Monday’s wind chills will make the trip feel like January. But after that it gets better.

NEW YORK — If you didn’t take advantage of the sunny weather on Sunday and Monday, you missed your chance until next week.

Rain will hit the New York City area overnight Tuesday and continue for much of the day, making it pretty much rain-filled.

After a brief break, rain returns later Wednesday. The wet weather continues on Thursday, it will be windy and gusts will increase a little. Isolated flooding remains a concern.

The only decent day seems to be Friday, which will be dry. But after three days of rain, much of the ground will still be waterlogged, so not exactly ideal conditions for heading to the park for a picnic.

If you’re looking for that relief from the rain to last all weekend, don’t get your hopes up. More rainfall could occur on both Saturday and Sunday.

By the time the rains continue, up to 4 inches of rain may fall in New York, the lower Hudson Valley, along the Jersey Shore, the Connecticut shoreline, and much of Long Island. Nearly all of New Jersey will see at least 2 to 3 inches of precipitation by the end of the weekend.

NEW YORK — Record heat is expected for much of the New York City area on Saturday, but all eyes are on a possible snow storm Monday night into Tuesday that could dump measurable snow on the three states.

Saturday will be very warm and mild, with the possibility of some showers and thunderstorms later in the afternoon and evening.

Sunday will be a little cooler than Saturday, but still well above average for this time of year. Sunday and most of Monday are expected to be dry.

When will it start to snow?

Precipitation will begin late Monday night and will begin as rain across most of our region. Areas further north and west of the city, and in the northern half of Connecticut, could see mostly snow.

On Tuesday morning, as temperatures become colder, the immediate New York City area will see a change to snow.

Tuesday morning and afternoon commutes could be affected by the storm and its impacts.

How much snow will we have?

It’s still a few days away, so the forecast is likely to be refined, but we have an early first look at the snow forecast.

Warmer temperatures, rain and sleet could reduce snow totals in New York City and coastal areas. The Weather Authority is currently forecasting less than 1 inch of snow for New York City, Long Island, Hudson County and the Jersey Shore.

The Hudson Valley and inland areas of New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut are likely to receive larger amounts. High-level snow totals could reach 6 to 10 inches at higher elevations.

It’s important to note that New York City and nearby coastal areas could see more snow if temperatures trend colder on Tuesday.

The Weather Authority will continue to update the forecast as necessary throughout the weekend and as we get closer to the storm.

What can we expect for Valentine’s Day?

Once the storm moves through Tuesday, we can expect cool, but seasonal, temperatures for the rest of the week.

Valentine’s Day is expected to be partly sunny, with highs in the 30s and lows in the 20s.

There is a chance of snow rain next Saturday, but it is too early to say anything definitive at this time.
