Foo Fighters Hire Ilan Rubin: New Drummer Replacing Josh Freese

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor July 31, 2025
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

Josh Freese Returns to nine Inch Nails, Departs Foo Fighters

Drummer Josh Freese has rejoined Nine inch Nails, concluding his tenure with Foo Fighters after two years. Freese, who has a prolific career drumming for numerous artists including Paramore, Angels & Airwaves, and Danny Elfman, announced his departure from Foo Fighters in May, citing the bandS decision to “go in a different direction with their drummer.” He expressed surprise and disappointment, noting it was the first time he had been let go from a band, but affirmed his continued freelance work.

Foo fighters brought Freese on board in 2023 as the successor to their late drummer Taylor Hawkins. The band released their first track since Freese’s departure, “Today’s Song,” this month, acknowledging his contribution and stating that their “story would be incomplete” without his “thunderous wizardry.” Their 2023 album, But Here We Are, followed Medicine at Midnight, which won the Best Rock Album Grammy shortly after Hawkins’ passing.

A Hollywood Reporter source indicated that Freese had committed to Nine Inch Nails for the year but informed Trent Reznor last week that he had “accepted a job with another band.”

Freese shared his thoughts on the transition via Instagram:

Leaving Nine Inch Nails at the end of 2008 was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make.My wife and I were expecting our third child, and I knew I needed to step away from life on the road to be home with my family.

NIN was a band that left me walking off stage every single night thinking, “That was incredible. We absolutely crushed it.” And it wasn’t just a feeling, it was a certainty. That level of intensity, pride, and satisfaction after each show is something I’ve rarely experienced anywhere else.

Now, being back on tour with Trent and the crew-helping them do what they do best night after night-is something I’m incredibly excited about. to be part of that energy again feels amazing.

If you get a chance to catch one of these shows over the next six weeks, I promise, they’re going to be absolutely unforgettable.

Hope to see you out there.

Princess of Wales Dazzles in Red at State Banquet

A sartorial nod to Franco-British relations.

At a Windsor Castle state banquet honoring French President **Emmanuel Macron**, the **Princess of Wales** made a striking appearance in a dark red gown, signaling more than just high fashion.

The Gown and Tiara Details

The flowing silk creponne evening gown, designed by **Sarah Burton** for Givenchy, featured elegant cape back detailing. The choice of color was a departure from royal norms, with red historically being linked to power and prestige.

She accessorized with an evening clutch, delicately embroidered with a lily of the valley motif.

Adding to the regal ensemble was the Lover’s Knot Tiara, a diamond and pearl diadem crafted by the House of Garrard in 1913. The tiara, featuring 19 hanging pearls set in silver and gold, was also favored by the late **Princess Diana**.

Fashion Diplomacy

The selection of **Sarah Burton**, a British woman designing for a French fashion house, held significance. According to fashion commentators, this choice served as “a sartorial symbol of the symbiotic relationship between the two European countries.”

Indeed, fashion is an important economic sector for both countries. France, known for its luxury brands, saw its fashion industry revenue reach approximately €150 billion in 2022, while the UK fashion industry contributes £38 billion to the British economy and supports nearly 900,000 jobs (British Fashion Council).

Are Tinned Fish Healthy? We Investigate

by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor July 2, 2025
written by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor

Tinned Fish Rockets from Bodega Shelf to TikTok Sensation

Once relegated to the back of the pantry, tinned fish is experiencing a remarkable resurgence, fueled by social media buzz and a growing appreciation for its health benefits and convenience. What’s behind this sea change?

Social Media Drives Tinned Fish Renaissance

Tinned fish, long a convenient seafood option in many cultures, is now enjoying a stateside image makeover, thanks to TikTok. Consumer data indicates tinned fish popularity has surged 91% year-over-year on TikTok, driven by factors like attractive packaging from brands like Fishwife, and transparent ethical sourcing by companies such as Wild Planet and Barnacle Foods.

Nutritional Value of Tinned Fish

According to registered dietitian-nutritionist Lauren Manaker, tinned fish, which includes cooked seafood preserved in cans, retains the same nutritional benefits as fresh fish. High-quality protein, omega-3 fatty acids, minerals, and vitamins are abundant in tinned tuna, salmon, mackerel, sardines, and anchovies. Checking labels to avoid high sodium levels and added oils is essential.

Health Perks of Eating Tinned Fish

The benefits of tinned fish are numerous:

  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Supports heart and brain health, reduces inflammation, and may improve mental wellbeing.
  • High-Quality Protein: Aids in tissue repair and promotes satiety.
  • Essential Nutrients: Contains minerals such as calcium, vitamin D, and selenium for bone health, thyroid support, and immune function.
  • Convenience: No cooking required, making it an easy way to incorporate nutrients into your diet.
  • Shelf Life: Long shelf life reduces food waste.
  • Versatility: Complements various spices, herbs, and sauces.

Watch Out for These Downsides

Consumers should pay attention to sodium and oil content, especially those monitoring blood pressure or with heart conditions. Highly processed options can contain excessive fats, sugar, and sodium. Manaker also advises that tuna can have high mercury levels; brands like Safe Catch test for mercury. For pregnant individuals, the FDA recommends two to three servings of cooked fish weekly. A helpful tip from Manaker: remember the acronym SMASH (salmon, mackerel, anchovies, sardines, and herring) for fish that are rich in omega-3s and low in mercury.

Creative Ways to Enjoy Tinned Fish

Integrating tinned fish into your diet is simple. Manaker suggests enjoying it straight from the can as a snack or adding it to various recipes. “Tinned fish is incredibly versatile, so enjoy it however you like,” she says. “It can be eaten straight from the tin as a quick protein-packed snack or incorporated into recipes for added nutrition and flavor. Toss it into salads, mix it with whole grain pasta, spread it on whole grain crackers, or add it to soups and stews. The nutritional benefits remain the same, so it really depends on your taste and routine.”

Incorporate it into salads, pasta, or crackers. According to a recent report by the Environmental Defense Fund, sustainably sourced tinned seafood can have a lower carbon footprint than some fresh options (EDF 2023).
