Jaiswal Joins Elite List, Eclipses Gavaskar’s Record
Young Indian batsman achieves milestone in record time during Edgbaston Test
In a blazing performance, Yashasvi Jaiswal has become the joint-fastest Indian to score 2,000 Test runs, sharing the honor with legends Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag. The young batsman reached the milestone during the second Test against England at Edgbaston.
Record-Breaking Feat
Jaiswal accomplished this feat in his 40th Test innings, equaling Dravid and Sehwag, and outshining icons like Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar. He also became the fastest Indian to reach 2,000 Test runs in terms of matches played, achieving it in his 21st Test, surpassing Gavaskarโs previous record of 23 Tests.
Brief but Explosive Innings
Jaiswalโs innings was brief but impactful, scoring 28 runs off 22 balls with six boundaries. However, his dismissal was controversial. Given out LBW, Jaiswal reviewed the decision, but England captain Ben Stokes argued that the DRS timer had expired. Despite the dispute, the review was accepted, and the original decision stood.
Youngest to Milestone
At 23 years and 188 days, Yashasvi Jaiswal is the second-youngest Indian to reach 2,000 Test runs, only behind Sachin Tendulkar, who achieved it at 20 years and 330 days. This milestone underscores Jaiswal’s potential to become a mainstay in the Indian batting lineup for years to come.

Earlier Missed Century
In the first innings, Jaiswal narrowly missed a century, falling for 87 after being deceived by Stokes. Even so, his consistent performance is reshaping Indiaโs batting approach. Notably, in 2024, the average age of a Test cricketer was 28.4 years, suggesting Jaiswal’s youth is an added advantage (Statista).
