The Director-General (Dirjen) of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was taken to the hospital after attending the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Wednesday (20/11/2024). He was treated at the Barra da Tijuca Samaritan Hospital.
Brazilian newspaper O Globo said Tedros had looked inadequate since the start of the G20 summit.
“(Tedros) showed signs of labyrinthitis and hypertensive crisis after showing signs of being ill earlier this week on the sidelines of the Group of 20 (G20) summit,” O Globo said, quoted by Reuters.

According to reports, Tedros was examined on November 18 by health professionals on duty at the G-20 Summit and given medication for high blood pressure.
He was then allowed to go home after his condition stabilized. According to the hospital, Tedros was admitted on Wednesday afternoon and underwent all the necessary tests.
“Clinical signs confirmed no signs of serious complications, and he was allowed to leave the hospital this morning.”
The G20 summit in Rio, Brazil, ended this week with calls for cooperation on climate change, poverty reduction and tax policy.
