Israel Strikes Syrian Military Sites in Damascus Amid Regional Tensions
Syrian security forces were deployed to the Sweida region on Monday,July 14th,to mediate a conflict between Druze fighters and Bedouin armed groups. However, these forces became embroiled in clashes wiht Druze militias. This escalating situation drew the attention of Israel, which subsequently conducted airstrikes against Syrian government forces on July 14th and 15th, citing the protection of the Druze community as its objective.
The Israeli military announced on Wednesday, July 16th, that it would reinforce its troop presence along the border with Syria. This decision followed a brief ceasefire announced by the Damascus Defence Ministry, which failed to de-escalate the renewed fighting between Druze fighters and syrian government forces in the Sweida region. Israel has indicated its intention to intensify its attacks if Syrian government forces do not withdraw from the Sweida area.
