Paris – Dutch synchronized swimmingโค twins Noortje and Bregje de Brouwer, 26, have announced their retirement from the sport followingโ their participation in theโฃ Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The pair, who began synchronized swimming at age four, will โconclude a career defined โby their โคunique twin connection and dedication to the sport.
Theโ sisters’ decision marks the end of a remarkable journey that saw them rise through the ranks of โฃsynchronized swimming, fueled by a shared passion ignited while โคwatching their sister and niece. Noortje and Bregje wereโ quickly identified for โฃtheir potential by swimming coaches. “They thought: bring in!”, Bregje recalled, โคreferencing a story shared last year regarding the advantages twins bring to synchronized swimming. They began training immediately after earning their B swimming diploma.
The pair’s bond was tested when their sister experiencedโข a shoulder injury, prompting Bregjeโ to consider continuing solo. However,she ultimatelyโค decided โขthat โtheir journey was best completed asโ a duo. “When Norwegian was out for aโฃ while,โ I noticed that I either want to continue with Noor, or โwe will stop together. And in Paris the circle is made,” she stated.
Noortje added, “Yes,โ they thought, โฃjust come here, we want that. And we loved water.We preferโ to lie โin itโ right away.After our Bโ diploma we immediatelyโ started.”
