Fire Breaks out in Cologne Stadium During Post-Match Interview
COLOGNE – A fire erupted in the guest block of the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne on November 22,2025,during a live interview with Eintracht Frankfurt‘s Jonathan Burkardt following his two-goal performance. The incident occurred as Sky moderator Sebastian Hellmann and experts Lothar Matthäus and Tabea Kemme were speaking with Burkardt.
The blaze, ignited by burning banners, prompted a response from the fire department, who allowed the banners too burn under control before extinguishing the flames. The disruption unfolded while the interview was underway, visible in the background of the Sky broadcast.The incident raises questions about stadium safety protocols and the potential for fan-related incidents during high-profile matches.
According to reporting by Bild,the fire department gained control of the situation after several minutes. The incident did not appear to cause any injuries.
