Sunderland is reportedly in discussions with Chelsea regarding a season-long loan agreement for striker Marc Guiu.
According to The Athletic, Chelsea has rejected purchase offers for the 19-year-old forward, expressing a preference for him to move to another English club. Talks between the two clubs are ongoing, with no agreement finalized for the young player.
Earlier this month, Championship side Ipswich Town had also shown interest in securing Guiu’s services on loan.
Chelsea acquired Guiu last summer, signing him to a six-year contract after meeting the €6 million release clause in his previous deal with Barcelona.
During his time with Chelsea, the 19-year-old scored six goals in 16 appearances, with seven of those being starts.his season was impacted by a leg abductor injury sustained in February,which kept him sidelined for over three months.
Guiu also featured for 41 minutes in chelsea’s victorious Club World Cup campaign this summer. Prior to his move to Chelsea,he netted twice in seven appearances for Barcelona’s senior team.
Newly promoted Sunderland has been active in the transfer market, securing seven senior players this summer.These additions include midfielders Granit Xhaka and Habib Diarra, as well as wingers Simon Adingra and Chemsdine talbi. However, the squad has yet to add any new strikers under manager Regis Le Bris.
Chelsea has also been busy this summer, bringing in attackers Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, and Jamie Gittens. Additionally, Estevao has joined the club following a pre-existing agreement with Palmeiras.
